hey fellas
been off work for a little wile now so thought id give makin a bar a try,
im self taught with all this so only constructive critisism haha

any ways this is how it started

didnt like how square it all was so i chamferd the corner


this is what i got so far.




straty (a member on hear) got me a stub axel so gonna buid swing away tire carrier for it also.
also got these coming.

Looking good.

Watch where the location of the stub for the swing out carrier will be. I was origionally going to 45' the ends of my bar, but in the end left them square to allow room on the bar for the carrier pivot. I used a 1" pivot pin fixed to the bar and nylon bushes in the carrier to keep the size a bit more compact over a trailer stub/hub combo. I wanted my rear door to open past 90', which it will.

I recon bu the time you allow the pivot point to be placed out far enough for the carrier and rear door to be opened, you may be a tad cramped for room unless the carrier pivot is to be mounted outboard of the bar.

Are those rear lights ADR approved? Cops like to pick on stuff like that. If they are not approved, at least fit some small reflectors on the back of the zook.

iv messured the coners and the stub will fit in nicley, im gonna put it on the passenger like teracis said, just so i can open full ways and for sierra lean.
with the lights well im in bunbury i dont think any one cares but to be on the safe side i will get some reverse and reflectors happening.

Interested to see how you have mounted it to your zook. I'm currently fabbing a tube rear bar up with swing away tyre carrier and jerry can holder.

I Have used the outside edge towbar mounting points and also welded tabs on the inside of the chassis tube for extra support i will add pics of this soon if you want.

im not finished with the mounts yet but so far iv used the stock towbar holes.
iv had a few days not being able to work on it but i will be putting tabs on the cross member for the reciever hitch or doing what straty has done and replace the cross member with right angle and bolting to that.

True, but i prefered to mount it from the RH side to allow clear access from the LH side. My carrier is also full width and incorperates a jerry can holder, so not much weight (Sierra lean) advantage from mounting from the LH side.

mate have u got any pics of ur rear bar? i was going to make one like the trailtough one but i think u have just changed my mind, one swingaway with both spare tyre and jerry can, sounds good.

they are the same lights i have in the back of my zook they are pritty awesome but when u hit the brakes at night you blind the person behind you

Alright finaly got some work done.

just a quick question for a fabrication noob...

when making the ends of the bar how it tapers up do you just cut out a small section front and back, bend the base up to meet the cut then weld along both edges?
