Hey, bought a suzuki vitara 96 model coupla weeks back, but found out today that when its in 4H and 4L there is no drive on the front wheels at all. Hubs were definitely in. Tried forward, reverse different gears, couldnt get any drive whatsoever.

Back home, car on flat ground, when hubs are not locked front propshaft will turn.
When hubs are locked the front propshaft still turns. I dont think this should be happening?

I believe the hubs are ok because when the car rolls forward and both backwards the front axle turns fine, and dosnt turn when theyre not in.
I'm also pretty sure the transfer case is fine aswell, and drive is getting to the fron prop shaft..

I cant hear any noise, looks fine, correct amount of oil etc... any ideas to the problem, any1 heard of this before...car has done hardly any 4x4..

Pull the locking hubs off give them a clean and grease up and that will fix your problem

Do some more work to figure your problem first

transfer in 2wd

lock both hubs

turn the front driveshaft from the transfer, if it turns, look at the driveshafts going from the diff to the wheels, one of them will be turning, one of htem wont

The one that is turning has something wrong with it, likely the Freewheeling hub but could be a CV or something, pull that hub off and have a look for starters

Thx for the help,
had another play underneath and u guys are spot on. when both hubs are in locked position, one axle turning the other not. The hub that dosnt lock also feels different to turn from the other.

any advice on pulling it apart, regreasing etc for this type of hub? probably will do both while im at it..
