to add to this

I normally disconnect the ignition and turn the engine over a couple of times with the oil filter removed.

this will pump out alot of the old oil still sitting in the engine.
i use a rag in a plastic bag over the filter location to catch all the oil and stop it spraying around the engine bay.

very important that the car does not start when doing this though............
