Can anyone tell me what cat converter would be best suited to the 2001 grand vitara please, i spoke to the exhaust place and they have said they can fit one as long as its r1o3 approved, so i need to know the closest to it that i can get. Its getting out of hand trying to get the actual 2001 cat, its been a week now, i need to get my car back on the road.

I did get my cat back from the exhaust place, its not melted inside as first predicted, its just very dirty and we have not been able to clear the crud out as yet.

any advice very much apreciated

I would just measure the pipe size of your blocked cat and then ring a "breakers" yard and ask for a cat the same size pipe with as few miles on it as possible from a new car. Surely that would meet regs.

Then take cheap second hand part to exhaust place and have them fit it.

No, the size of the pipe will dictate its flow, so if you get a CAT with the same sized pipe inlets as your OEM CAT, then it will flow sufficiently.

Just make sure you don't have any CAT temp sensors in your factory CAT, as this will be required of your replacement unit also.

Yep thats fine then. Some modern cats have a temp sensor in them to help with emmissions trimming. Wasn't sure what the GV's had.

i havent got a clue what they have or dont have and im a GV owner lol, think i need to find me a manual. I do now realise that a break in the exhausts y pipe causes the check engine light to come on, also now realise that there was a break in the y pipe when i bought the car 5 yr ago because that light was always on till i realised by noise that there was a break and had it fixed, explains why the garage could never find what was making the light stay on.

hubby just measured the pipe on the cat, going round the scrappies in the morning, fingers crossed i will have my car back by the end of the week.

i like the 4x4 in your pic fatzook, want one lol
