I have a lockrite and it hasn't hampered the sand performance, may have even improved it.

The locker will only unlock when the wheels are trying to turn at different speeds, like when cornering, on a high traction surface like tar. They won't unlock on sand or slippery surfaces

My theory is this. As the locking 'Driver' discs are separated by springs, if both rear wheels have traction but cant rotate, then both discs could theoretically slip and leave the car stationary.
However, (I'm assuming) that the precise length of the Alignment Pins (between the 2 drivers) only allows enough movement for one driver to slip at any time. So, in the hypothetical situation described in my previous post , I could (at worst) experience 'one wheel drive'.
Anyway I'm sure that thats unlikely to happen in real life and I'm looking forward to fitting the locker.

It impossible for that to happen under power,
as the diff pins drive both drivers outward under power,
and backing off, because of the shape of the region the diff pins push on

A couple more questions...
What do you think of the idea of swapping around the side gears as mentioned in a previous post?
And do you need to remove the carrier to instal the locker? The instructions are a little vague about this, although I guess i'll find out for sure when the time comes.

Swapping gears around gives locker a less worn edge to drive on,
so functions a bit better,
but some say theres a risk of breakage moving parts around.
I dont know which way round I put mine
Fitting pix as per the way I did it.

If your fitting the locker into a Sierra, you will have to pull the carrier out to do it coz it's a closed unit (I think instruction pics are for a hilux). The side gears (spider gears) will need to be removed in order to fit the locker. This is for a Spartan locket, unsure about lockrite
