no such thing as pipe with 50mm OD, 40nb is 48.3, 50nb os 60.3

there is 52mm OD exhaust tube, which will hold the valve and stuff up no drama anyway

The pictures haven't loaded completely for me on my phone so sorry if I'm missing something obvious. But it there any reason you couldn't take the template to a small foundry, have them make a mould and cast the whole thing in Stainless? A mate has had it done for a solid aluminium steering wheel in a show car.

Might be a little pricy, but I reckon it would work well.

thanks for the suggestions folks. the pipe has to be able to support the weight of the valve, so metal is about the only option. we looked at options for sand packing, but none of the staff at college were confident in getting the sort of fluidity I need.

The cnc pipe bender is a bit of a revelation - the fact it can do spirals is the very thing i need. i'll start looking for companies locally who can do that sort of thing.

cheers,
mattg.

it just so happens that a particular forum member works with these guys, who are getting a whole heap of machine candy in in the next few months.

tube bending.... see here http://www.laserandpress.com.au/tubebending.html

and i work in the same building for www.smcstainless.com.au

both companies owned by the same people.

if you have a look through the laser and press site, there is some AWESOME machines.

tube lasers, full automated robot folded, robot welders.

give stainless metal craft a call and speak with graeme, he is the general manager and tell him about your project.

we are based at emu plains, just outside of penrith.

if you like i could have a look at it and give you a quote for me to do it on the side.

most stainless shops will have rollers that could help that out, as for the finish, thats just careful sanding and hours of polishing :P
