So after I had to chuck the bumper after his run in with the excel, I thought I'd have a go at making a new bar. I'd never welded before, so I went out and bought an arc welder and had a few practice runs before I started.

I didn't have a bender so I got some elbows and welded them in, check out my welding set up with my fancy brick "clamps" holding it all in place

Cable tied in place to get an idea of how it will look

Finished off with uprights and painted

Having never welded before, one of the first things I learned was that welding "tan" is not fun

Nice bar, with what you had to work with. Also cover up when welding.

Nah, not crooked, just the angle of the photo. Will take more pics of mounts when I get a chance.

Bar has been on for a while, I've also welded some tangs for spotties and UHF aerial

Image

Paint was stripped off the bar on the last trip up the beach, wind was blowing that hard it sand blasted the paint off the bar

Pics of mounts, note that I cut the outriggers off and mounted the bar directly to the chasis

Prime??? Hahaha, I was itching to get out and drive it, so a couple of coats of pressure pack matt black was all it got. Still need to pull it off and tidy up some of the welds and fix up the paint.
