Hey Guys,
looking at doing this mod soon to my drover, just wondering if anyone can tell me whether the suzuki swift water pump will fit the G13a engine or only G13ba? I'm looking to change my water pump and just wonder whether I should buy a swift pump or a sierra pump, I know I still need the pulley as well, or am I just talking random crap, and should just buy sierra pump and source swift pulley from wreckers while getting the swift bottom pulley as well. Sorry if this is a rant but I'm tired and have been drinking.
Cheers Matt

Just wondering what would be the best/easiest alternator swap for a 1L 85 zook? After more power to run the winch and some spotties.
Oh and being able to drive the car for more than a day before charging the battery would be a bonus!!

Yes! But I found is you use the stock cast mount on the g16B the alternator will be wayyy off alignment. Find a 1.3 metal alternator bracket and drill it out.

I'v got a 70amp alternator from a base model EB Falcon on mine. Still have to drill the bottom mount bracket and grind the top mount arm (slightly) but you can still run the std belt. This alternator comes with a multirib pulley, but i sswaped it for a std vee pulley that a auto sparky friend gave me. This pulley was a generic one that comes with aftermarket alternators and required about 5 min of machining in the lathe to relieve the back so as not to rub on the alternator housing when bolted on.
I also had to relay the sence wire as it charged at 15v when connected up with the std Suzuki wiring.

In doing this mod, I used the vitara wp pulley $20 (from suziworld), a swift crank pulley ($7 from the wreckers). Make sure it is the correct wp pulley, with similar offset to standard 1.3 single v pulley. The other benefit of this is not changing the wp, and being able to keep the standard fan.
I found I had to relieve some material from the alternator where there was interference between the alternator and the tensioner bracket.
In regards to the wiring questions.
On my 1.3 the white wire with red stripe is the battery light.
You can use a multmeter to confirm this, as it will pass about 100mA to light up the battery light in the dash when the ignition is on.
As stated previously, looking at the alternator with the charge terminal(output) in the air, left is sense, and right is battery light.
My battery light does not light up correctly, however it does charge correctly. As stated previously, it appears to be a problem with the alt, however it doesn't affect the operation.

yeah lots of these alternators from wreckers come pre buggered cause all the power steer pumps leak heaps of oil into them so they do funny things, mine used to flicker the warning light and blow headlight globes, I turfed it once it blew both headlights leaving work one night

Mine does exactly the same thing.
It doesn't appear to be pre-buggered, the alternator is so clean it looks brand new

So how would I check if it actually is working? I've put a multimeter on it, and it seems to be working fine, except for the dash light. The bulb is fine.

The Bosch alternators also fit.
My 70amp Mitsubishi died yesterday so i fitted a new 85amp Bosch (EB/ED Falcon/Fairmont from the info on the box) this morning. New Mitz alternator wasn't available and i didn't want another s/h junker.
Drilled out threaded lower mount in alt so M10 bolt can pass through, changed multi-rib pulley to a std vee pulley (i'm still running std belt). I think 1 x engine mount bolt will require some grinding for clearance if new belt fitted. I didn't do this as yet as still have old belt and just needed to get it going so i can get to work.
Wired as per directions with alternator / auto sparky.
S - direct to battery + (B+ terminal on alternator)
L - to dash light wire
B+ - 8 B&S wire to battery +
Charging at 14.3v @ 1000rpm no load. 13.8v at idle (800rpm) with headlights and spotties on.
Granted clearances are a bit tighter and the Mitz alt is a easier fit, but it fits none the less.

can't bacause you need to use a swift water pump, which has allot bigger hole spacings then a sierra. i didn't look into it, but you might be able to drill out the sierra one to fit the swift pump....

Ok so here it goes. i've got a Vit with the G16B.
1. Is it easier with a steel bracket of a 1.3 to do this conversion??? as i read that the new alt. wont line up with the cast one...
2. I picked up my 110amp mitsu altenator with the fuse box out of an EL. with no P/S Leaks for 40 Bucks from Pick and Paymore...
3. Do i need to change the Pulleys seeing as i already have Multirib Pulleys??? or are the pulleys changed to help the alt. line up.

zook95 and joel88 what engines do you have fitted?
Also zook95 to know what can be used of those pullys it will help to see the bolt pattern for crank and a pic of WP pully beside stock sierra one, as options will change.
Has everyone who fitted swift water pump fitted a thermo fan? This weekend I'm finalising my swap using mitsu alt / G16a WP pully / swift crank. This lets me keep standard fan, as I don't want a thermo.

G13A with 4 bolt crank pully - you will need;
- mitsu alt out of a falcon.
- Crank. 4 bolt crank pully from a swift or a vitara 5 bolt one and redrill holes.
- Waterpump. 8 valve G16A pully and keep sierra waterpump and fan (doing this weekend will confirm it works ok). Or fit a swift waterpump and pulley.
# I don't know heaps about this stuff, I'm just in the middle of doing it....
