Ive done so much searching that I am now confused...
Im a Sierra dude, and know nothing of these "Vitaras"
Please help.

My wife is looking at buying a Vitara this weekend.
1992 JLX Wagon 1.6 EFI Auto.
Car is VERY tidy, just concerned about the auto etc.
I have NOT viewed the car yet, as it is quite a distance away.

The owner says that it is a 3 Speed Auto.
I had assumed that they were fitted with 4 Speeds?
Will the 3 Spd be a down fall to us?
Seeing as how the 4 Spd seems to be the pick.
Also, are they MPFI or TBI motors?
Which is the best of the two?

Will be used for family duties, light beach work and camping.
I just want to make sure that it will be a good enough car for us.
Or if I should wait and look out for a later model.

My guess is that it is a 4speed but because it has an overdrive they dont think it is a 4speed.

Its a 4 door right?

MPFI and its normally a good motor.

That was what I thought...
Does a 4 Speed have 1-2-D with an overdrive button?
That is what it looks like in the pics.

Also, what is the black box near the throttle body in the pic?

Mines an auto 93 lwb vit, yes all 4doors are efi, and the autos are 4speed, with 1 2 D t bar with an od button..mine has a economy andpower button, too, under dash

the 3 sp is a GM , the 4 sp is an aisan .
