I did Cape York in a Moke back in 1986, a Sierra be like a Limo :)
Just know Your car, carry light weight, make sure You drive slow.
Suspension in my opinion is very crucial, it can get rough.
Pre plan, be safe, have fun

We broke a few shocks, cracked a couple of sub frames, kept getting over taken by an old guy, in an old Peugot, driving in 1st gear very slowly.
We kept stopping to fix stuff :)

Sure did. It was 25 years ago, and I still enjoy talking about it.
Big expensive 4wd owners hated us for getting our $4 Mokes same places they went :)
Bit like they hate Zook owners for same reasons :D

Corrugations can be quite severe, items rubbing together with sand and dust, can wear awy very quickly.
Lost a lot of tin foods that way.
Learnt to pack wisely.

Pay attention to locals warnings, especially about crocs, they mean nasty beasties

I do trips once a year back and forth from here to Cairns and I tend to go the inland route and visit mates on the way west of rocky. Plenty of high speed dirt, corrugations and cattle grids. The koni's seem to be working super well on my leafy and she is quiet comfortable.

I know it was pretty much sealed roads 100% but ive driven a SWB Sierra Melb to Bris and back about 5 times in the past years.
You get used to the kindey punches and being shaken around!
