Hey guys and gals, like many newcomers I have searched through the archives of auszookers and found heaps of good information and some very eye catching rigs.
As I am new to 4wding I was looking for some information, in specific what would be the largest size tyre you could fit on a stock 95 Sierra with no lift kit or anything (new rims will purchased according to size tyre) and what would be the largest size tyre you could fit on the same car with a 2 inch body lift.
(not sure if this is posted in the right area, as I said I'm new to this :D )

235/75/15 will squeeze under with a bit of hammering in the guards...

But just remember that big tyres without gearing to match will reduce the performance of a car that already struggles for power...

With 2 inch body 31s will be fine, but then you really wanna be doing something with the gearing, unless you like slowness and regular new clutches and various other driveline compnents... ;)

Legally speaking, in Qld the largest tyre is 15mm larger than stock irrespective of rim size.

I suppose you want to know the largest illegal size that won't foul on the body, chassis or suspension components or require extensive gearing changes?

GENERALLY cops dont bother with slightly too big tyres. people do get fined, but its not overly common...

$500-$600 delivered from lowrange depending on the gear ratios, which depend on the tyre size...

If you need to pay some to rebuild the T-Case with the new gears then thats extra obviously... And I'd strongly recommend shelling out around $100 for new bearings while the case is apart...

You should only need to flatten the seem to clear it very easy and minor. Try and track down a 1 litre Sierra transfer case with the 4x4 light switch this will help with gearing as a cheaper option

Ok cool thanks inbits, probably not going to get big enough tyre's to have to worry about gearing anyways.
And does any body know anyone in the Brisbane area that does sound proofing?

Not much sound proofing can be done to a Sierra mate especially a soft top

The 1 litre transfer will make a big difference even with stock tyres also if yours is a wide track you can source some narrow track 1.3 ltr diff centers as they are a little bit lower

I was toying with the idea of looking for some kind of speed sensor and tying it into the radio volume, I have to turn the thing up the faster I go, then stop at the lights and it's far too loud...

Also, I have 2 inch body lift and 235/75/r15's (29's) on my zook and it really needs the tcase gears changed. As others have said factor this in and work out what tyres you want to run then get the corresponding gears and lift. I'm new here too (and to zooks) so I've done nothing yet, these things need planning.

mums commodore does that, it's extremely annoying... VY ute, 2006. not sure if its deliberate or something broken. but maybe you could look into that from a wrecker teracis?

as for tyre size 95sierra, as long as you fit flares to cover the tyres, most cops wouldnt care if you had around 30" tyres underneath, they don't look too out of place on sierra's... 2" of lift fits them i think, but not 100%. although, doesnt change the fact its illegal, and theres always the chance of getting fined...

I was thinking some kind of jaycar kit (if they make one) but I'm not that desperate. The shifter basically hits the volume knob when I change down anyway so it's easy to turn it down at the lights.

A toyota van I drove the other day did this aswell. I think its deliberate as the car apeared to be setup as a delivery/courier vehicle (centre console and dash and stuff) so it was convenient (if you were a courier) that the music automatically turned down when ever you stopped

As for tyres.

I was running 215/70R15 (about 28") with no suspension or body lift, no hammering and not a problem with scrubbing. Also didnt notice gearing a whole lot (although I did attribute the lack of power to a dieing engine so could have been gears)

Choppy (user on here) is running 235/75R15 (about 29'') with 2'' suspension lift no problem. He has about an inch or rubber flaring added to his metal WT flares to cover the tyres. He also has no problems with gearing although he does have the 1.6L engine.

nope no scrubbing issues, and I had bolts that stuck out in the rear guard about 50mm from my roll bar that never got touched. I was running some GT radial HT's (I think 215/70R15 or 28"). They were a really good tyre on and off road (for a HT)

Looked really good on the car with no lift too, gave it a tougher looking stance, sierra's look really skinny and weak with standard tyres IMHO.

Will now be running 235/75R15 Federal Couragia MT with 2'' suspension lift. Havn't tried them but have seen Choppy's car go awesome with them.

Will probably be selling the old tyres as I dont realy need them. PM me if your interested and I'll get some photo's

That's good news that there's no scrubbing issues, I agree that they look to skinny. Thanks for the tyre suggestion but I was kind of looking at the BFG KM2, have you or any body had any experience with these?
That will be one mean zook with those Federals and a lift kit =D

Have heard only good things about the KM2's. Pricey I think but well worth it, check out the rigs section or chat section for tyre threads or guys thats are running them for the reviews.

Sure will (I hope). Just want it to be finished.

legally you can only run, 26 inch wheels in QLD give or take 15mm

you can get 30s under one however with 2 inches of lift illegaly

Would 215/75r15 be noticeable enough to cause an issue?

some have had issues and some haven't

zookiemonster got his car taken off the road and others have been defected.

i personally havent had any issues as yet. I run 31s on road and 33s when im on the way to a park or some thing for a drive.

generally most police don't care as long as your vehicle looks safe. If queensland transports pull you up you are gone, they will look at the numbers on the side wall

its all about proportions in my opinion. whether the tyres look big compared to the car as to whether authorities will notice/mind

I never had a problem with my tyres, but like tanshi said I've never been pulled over by DOT.

only a little bigger than what I had so I'd so no, but that sought of thing is all subjective.

The rubbing would depend on rim offset. On stock rims I'd probably say no. Or at least nothing a hammer couldnt sought out, I could be wrong though

I dont personally. but others do, check the trips section for any runs that are going and see if you can tag along.
