If you use finite element analysis to identify the problem areas on the rear bar, you will appreciate how risky your practice is.

The loop on the front of a sierra is not a recovery point either.
If you use it as such, you will notice the cross member bending, and the loop tearing out, and/or bending.
It is really not advisable.

At the front of my Vitara, I have a recovery hook bolted through the bullbar mount. I've got a photo somewhere, I'll try and find it for you..

i used to have mine setup like buzbox on my sierra.Replaced the ball with a rated shackle. While i try to avoid snatching especially in my zuk i have towed patrols before.I have now built a haymon reece hitch into my new rear bar,but the first recovery will be scary just till i trust it
and for royce, there was a video on outers i think where a towball sheared off snatching, ive seen photos of them sheared but you still dont know how hard they were going or if it wouldnt have broken any other types of recovery ponts anyway

royce wrote: anyone got evidence of a towball breaking while snatching? while its not good practice they are designed to cope with a fair load
and like Shep said, the towbar will come off first and if you get to that stage you are doing it wrong and should rethink the way you tackle things in life
