Hello peoples... need help asap.... I am trying to pull out drivers side rear axle... tried with the wheel on (yes the bolts and brake lines are undone) wish it was that easy to fix lol... ok i have used a rubber mallet and flogged the hell out of it hitting the rim left then right... then tried to flip the drum so i could hit that with more ease....; but nope... 1st time doing this... been bashing for hours moved all of 5mm lol... HELP!!! i got tomorrow off work to fix this soo quick posts with advice would be very greatful... RAAAAHHHHH!!!
so can i drop the diff centre out with the shafts still in as another option???
or do the shafts lock it in
just at my wits end and need help... thanks people

Try using the drum off the brakes as a slide hammer, flip it over and put the bolts on it but only do them up a few threads. then let the momentum of the drum do the work for you (like a slide hammer)

get a piece of chain about 2 foot long, the links need to be big enough to fit over a wheel stud. Put a nut back on over the chain and snatch it a few times, the same way you would crack a whip.

the centre can not be removed with the axles still in.

okies i will try tomorrow morning... been swearing and banging for a few hours lol so i will give my good neibours a break... sounds like a good idea.... will give both a try...
does this usualy happen? or could the axle shaft be twisted or diff a little bent???

ps thanks for the quick replys... rang the boss so i got the day off. so quick fix i hope... then yay free time... yeah just the seals were leaking came home to pool of oil on the drive way.... hmmmm also thank you weaver for the seals.... not bad for a sunday.....

it's been pretty common i the sierras i've had. I've found the chain method most successfull. At worst i've slid a pick handle through the chain and used that as something easy to hold, then leave slack and pull, shock loading the chain.

Make sure the diff center is still all bolted up before trying to remove the axles. If you unbolt the center so it's loose you wont be able to get the axle out either.

Also make sure it is very secure on the car stands!!!

My Jimny that im wrecking, i couldnt get the axle out.

So i cut the whole housing behind the bearing...

It was bent anyway with the axle and i needed to get the centre out


I normally do the drum method. Or i have a small slide hammer here for backup..

ok i got one side out. 2nd pull got him out... wooo. just half done the bolts on the drum put the wheel on and half did them up.... toooooo easy!

I found using a hand winch on it then a few hits on the housing with the FBH works well, mine was a banana after a 12" jump ripped out the motor and slamed it into the dif:

video the jump??? love to see it aye... but must have cost a bit to fix...

This was 10 years ago so video cameras weren't in everyones pocket.

Cost about $200 in parts so it wasn't too bad, the gearbox failed a few weeks later, I suspect it was related, that cost alot more to fix.
