I want to do a 1.6 conversion into my stockman.
I understand I will need to do the engine mounts. I already have a 1.3 sierra box.
What I need to know is:
-Do I use the 1l transfer case?
-Will the 1.3l box line up and fit the same as the 1l box?
Cheers

Cheers
You will need to do something with the engine mounts though.

Yep, use the 1.0 litre transfer. It has more favourable gearing.
1.3 transfer: 1.409 High Range, 2.22 Low range.
1.0 transfer: 1.55 High Range, 2.55 Low Range.
No, the 1.3 box is longer. You will need to cut down your gearbox mount and do some jiggerypokery to make it work.
Christover on here has done it though.
Steve.

Thanks mate.
With the 1.3 box on the 1l transfer what would the gearing be similar to?

I ran '29's easily, with my stock 1 diffs.
31's was ok.
Then I put lj 50 diffs in and it was brilliant

May be a silly question, but I have a 1l but it's a wide track what centres would it have?

Woah there - you have a Maruti. Disregard all the previous advice.
I think the 1.3 is a bolt in, and gearbox should be too?
I think 1.3 centres bolt in to the WT Maruti diffs. You don't want to though, as the maruti's have 4.1 diffs - sweet.
Steve.

OK then that is different..I not sure about them.
Maruti are different diffs? I not know enough to answer that.
or it has had widetrack sierra diffs added.
Need more info to answer that.

keep your diffs they are lower geared and suitable for air lockers keep your 1ltr t/case better geared for larger tyres and 4x4. The 5 speed bolts to the 4 speed mount, you'll have to use your maruti jackshaft, the gear lever will be close to touching the back of the shifter hole and with the rubber boot on it will want to jump out of 2nd and 4th. but you can trim 5mm out of the retainer to stop it. bolt your motor to your 5speed using the adapter kit then drop them in and bolt your gearbox to the mount then sit your motor on the new 1.3 mounts and weld them in once your happy with where it is sitting(i used some engine mounts cut off a 1.3 swb chassis and welded them in the new position) the dizzy will also be closer to the firewall (when looking at other 1.6s in swb's) hope this helps
cheers wayne

spot on realyuted. the benefit of the engine sitting further back near the firewall is the intake ends up a little neater. i'll second everything you said about the gearbox location and trimming the boot retainer. when i did mine i used the christover method with the 10mm plates and rotated the motor SLIGHLY and it all fitted with out a bodylift. unusual i know, but i was running stock tyres and had to swap the 4.1 for 3.7 to bring my highway revs down. but that car did do more kms on the road than off. would be great with the 4.1 and 31s i would think

I have taken the car bush a few times and I'm not all that convinced that the gearing it going to be low enough.
Will this change when mated with a 5spd box?
