Jimny's don't have a heater tap and normally should have coolant running through the heater core all the time, If its been blocked off a loop hasn't been established for the engines coolant to flow from and to the engines heater pipes, coolant may be not able to cool parts of the engine. that pipe at the bottom coming from the engine looks like its been blocked. Is this the case?

and looking on the Jimny workshop manual it shows coolant travels from the head via the heater core to the water pump. thus restricting coolant flow from the head. may be causing your issue.

Have you just bought the car? maybe this is why it was sold.

Yep had it for a week.. slipped a disc yesterday, so as soon as I've been to the BackSnap doctor I'll be swapping those hoses around.

What dollars are you looking at for a heater core if it needs swapping out?

to see if this is the problem don't worry about the heatcore for now, just make sure coolant can flow from engine outlet to engine inlet and see if this helps the overheating.

the heater core is in the dash so I'd think the time to replace would out way the price of the core... I hope I'm wrong thou

That sounds like the go... cause after a quick search the reoccuring price i'm seeing is $330 for a new heater core.. and most of a day to change it over.

Guess who else has a leaky heater core!!! Just disconected the inlet/outlet for the heater core and funnel'd hot water into the top fitting.. got a bit of warmth through the vents, and a few dribbles on the floor in the cab. So it looks like I'll be fixing/replace that in the coming week.

I think the manual your reading is for the g13bb and you have M13a engine. the flow chart for the cooling system is for the g13bb engine.

That would be my style too..

On my FJ73, I wired 1 of the Spotlights backto front or something, with a bad relay.. cant quite remember.. But as soon as I turned the Spotties on all the Wires melted and a big cloud of smoke came out of the engine bay, it was a good thing I had my pocket knife on me, or I think I would have lost the whole car.
