just looking to confirm the crankshafts are EXACTLY THE SAME..
i have 2 engines vitara 1.6 carby 8v n' a vitara 1.6 efi 16v..
can anyone tell me if i can swap them around??

and i've been told they are a non-interference motor??
can someone confirm that also??

as i don't wanna pull the complete engine apart to get
the crankshaft out to find they are different

Don't know about the crank. 99% sure they are a non-interference engine

No crank is, some one could of forgoten to clean the cuttin tip on the day your crank was made.

Micrometer's will soon tell you how close thay are tho. So pulling apart you will have to do.

WRT crank. The parts catalogue seems to list the same part number for both 8 valve and 16 valve SE416's. SQ416 GV's (like the G16 in my Sierra) are also the same, as are SY416 Baleno G16's.
Some of the "Santana" model SE416's score a different part number though :?

part number is: 12221-71C00

from model series SE416-4 and onwards (even E24 spec , non santana), the crankshafts were different from the 2 - 4 valve engines , although they would interchange between engines. the only difference is that some of the cranks in the later model g16b's are fully counterbalanced.

from my manuals and the gates timing belt websites , all the 16 valves engines in the baleno and vitara etc are INTERFERENCE , the 8 valve engines are non interference.

Thats interesting... wonder if I am misreading the parts catalogue :?

Verm1n, listen to these guys before you listen to me, my parts catalogue could be dodgey, sorry...
Still if your up for pulling them apart and measuring, I got some digital callipers you can borrow to measure them with if you want.

just to clarify , there is no difference in the stroke or the main and big end journal sizes , and the cranks are totally interchangeable between the engines , but there are 2 different cranks.

the later G16B crank is marginally stronger and better balanced , but it is also heavier .

So maybe the later crank superceded the earlier one in production, hence no old crank part no. is used?

I imagine a G16 EFI 16 valve motor with the G13 flywheel, and a lighter crank would really rev up easily then 8O :P

take your timing belt of and turn it over repeatedly, put the belt back on a see if it starts. if if wont start youve probably done expensive damage. let us know what happens :oops!: :oops!:
