she is all going back in well. i thought to myself, bugger it, i'll do some new steer arms i have been planning for a while. now that i have the tooling i have bitten the bullet and pulled the finger out.
first up was to make a jig for the knuckle to sit in the mill. i want to machine some flats into the top kingpin to make an arm that press-fits onto this.
this part of the jig has the 4 king pin bolt holes which bolt to the knuckle. the boss with the sigle 1/2 inch hole sits in the table of the mill and is a tap in fit.
this bit sits in the bottom of the knuckle and the boss is a tight fit in the king pin hole.
bolted onto the mill.
the small flats i wanted.
i won't have a chance to do the new arms before my trip, so the old stuff will go on for now. but when i'm back i will start the machining from solid.

i know i'm pushing crap up hill to get the new arms done in time....but i'll have a crack!
cut the two pieces in the band saw and milled them so they are the same thickness.
i had to machine this part out for the tie rod ends. hopefully i can finish it all by thursday night.

joeblow,. i'd be keen for a solid axle version!
just wondering how you would be setting up the links & how they attach to the chassis, i'm guessing you'd be running the same style of 3 link that's on the yellow beast?

thats a pretty looking Diff....one question though. after going to all of the trouble of building a whole new diff did you gain any pumpkin clearance over a standard diff? I thought you might have chopped the bottom of the pumpkin down to minimal clearance for the CW&P possibly making the diff housing around the 3rd member a bit wider to still maintain a some decent oil capacity?

first of all remember that this was just a test.
look at the pic below. i have a bout 4mm between the edge of the centre to the bottom of the housing mount flange, which is flat, the zook diff is not, it continues an even radius. so, really it is a shaved diff. if i go anymore the centre flange will be hanging down, and know one likes a too-protruding flange.
mkII diff is under way......check back for updates.

Ah yeah i see what you mean...from that point of view you probably gain about ~20mm I reckon over a zook diff....
I have to stay severe protruding flange is one ugly proposition and tends to get in the way when you are trying to holeshot through the bog

Hey Joe, I've just recently joined this forum and am very impressed with what you've done, very professional work mate.
I also have a 1997 Vitara 2.0Lt V6 estate and would be interested in getting one of your front diff set ups if you decide to produce a few of them.
Keep up the excellent work ...

I see there is a fair bit of interest in this diff. I've been busy testing and finalising bits and pieces so have been a bit slow updating stuff....
Now....I am in the process of maybe scoring all the axle and gear making stuff I could ever dream of........will see how I go.
I am more than prepared to make some of these housings but at the moment will only accept '3' firm orders. I can now get my hands on Jimny chromo axles so people like gwagon can sleep easier at nights.
IF you are keen please pm me for a spot.
If you want just a housing and then work out your own arms etc you are looking at about $500. this includes knuckles but nothing else.
I have a Vit Chassis which I am setting up to use as a jig, and I have some tricky coil mounting systems in the works. I f you would like a diff plus control arm, panhard rod, shock mounts and all the other goodies this will set you back about $850 (you will have to supply your own arms i.e Jimny etc).
You can have either a sierra 1.3 size front OR a full size vit front.
These items are labour intensive as you can imagine. There will be some fabbing on your part (mainly cutting and welding) so please realise that this is no weekend job. I can also make the components to lift your bum to the same height, but at the end of the day I will keep things as low as possible but allow the easy (as you will get) fitment of 31's.

would be good to see you make up the brackets for control arm and panhard mounts on the chassis, shame to see such a nice diff ruined by some shoddy mounting

hmmm very interested in the full sized diff with the brackets n stuff, but what spring/shock combo would be ideal to match the calmini lift?

Very true. The hardest part is that crossmember that sits behind the motor. I'm working on a sexy replacement for that one (i.e road legal).

Either standard or OME coils. Shocks will be worked out when the jig is up. (get it?). Shocks will be KYB.
Also, a note on the steering. you should not have to use any form of high steer, rather a modified version of a wide track system will be fine.
