Steering lock

Went to start the car this morning and the key wouldnt turn and neither would the steering wheel. I have tried wiggling the wheel but it will barely turn at all. I have pulled the shroud from around the wheel but I am a total mechanical novice and dont know what to look for. Any help or some tips and tricks would be much apreciated.

Put some Wd40 down the key hole & try again, wobble the kay as your turning it to, worn key's & sticky barrel's will play up..

I was starting to think that maybe some water got in it or something. I learned the hard war about checking how deep bog holes are yesterday. I also learnt that carpet sucks.
