there was a thread a few weeks ago all about how bad they are. Some one has one and it couldnt pull them out of the mud or something. I am looking but cant find it. If I remember right it had something to do with the melb cup day or something.

Have you checked out the tiger11. They are cheep light and work great. A mate of mine just got one on his Lux and it pulled his rig up 2 sets of 3ft steps.

I have a tmax 6500
And I am very happy with it.
It is light, fast and still has a 5.5 hp motor
I have used it to flip a cruiser onto its roof and
It didn't sound like it was working at all.
With a snatch block it will be 13000lb
I wanted a winch that was as light as possable
While still having steel cable and the tmax was in
My opinion the best choice.

thanks shep sounds good how long have you had it?
hows it copeing with the water?
I have a 6000lb chineese winch on the now with plasma(18 kg weight) rope but last time I sunk it for a while I dont think the motor liked it and has seized and I dont think its worth rebuilding.
the tmax looks like a good fit for my setup
cheers andrew

I have an arb non winch bar that I modded. It would be a farking tight fit with either I recon.I belive they do fit however.
Personally I think they would weigh too much (particularly if you run cable) for the arb bar as you have to loose the out rigger mounts with big rubber.
so its only mounted through 2 bolt holes VERY close to the ends of each rail, you couldfix this but its still a lot of weight swinging on the end of a light car once you add a bar and winch.
this is how I fixed my rails it is also a chassis ext for the RUF, the bar mounts to all 4 holes which are plated and crush tubed.
You can see the modded bar in the next pic as it was too tight for my likeing standard

my 6500 is around 18mths old but spent a fair bit of time on the floor of balls
shed, it has been on the car for 6 or 8 months. when i moved to elcho the car
was transported on a barge that carries mining equipment and my car was
on the loading door for the whole trip from Darwin. the car must have coped
a few waves as it was full of sea water and the salt build up was so thick that
i had to scrape it off the gauge to see how much fuel it had in it.
any how long story short i hosed the salt of the car and ran the winch cable
out and oiled it and it still work's like a new one. i have pulled both the motor
and gearbox off for a look and everything is still fine. it has more then
enough power to drag a sierra out off a bog, even on a single line pull using
the first layer of cable. with all the cable out and a snatch block it would
move a tank maybe
as a bonus i reckon it would be fast enough to pull start my car in lowrange.
i don't have much faith in winch solenoids so i put mine under the bonnet, but
they are a fairly easy and cheap thing to replace if they do fail.
