Would it be ok to cut the second leaf just before it wraps around the main leaf and the undo the clamps on the front near the shackle to allow the pack to seperate when drooping?

That wrap is there to hold the spring pack together if you snap a main leaf. You could cut it, but I wouldn't.
Ask yourself, "do you really need to?" Check out Wants33s rig, his spring packs have the clamps etc in place and gets plenty of travel.

All of my springs have a military wrap on both ends of the spring, however
They are not tight on the main leaf. My leafs are so loose that the second leaf
Bangs into the middle bit of the shackle and they can make a lot of noise when
The spring pack is going from droop to compresion. I have thought about opening
The spring clamps and cuting off the militery wrap however
I have lockers and 6.5s so I don't reckon that I need masive flex

Millitary wrap also helps with spring wrap control (if you dont have a trac bar).

Do they rub because you have extended shackles with brace in the middle and there is not enough room for the wrap ?
I though military wraps were usually only at one end of the spring and that they are designed to be at the fixed end of the spring not the shackle end.
Did any Suzuki's actually come with them ?

taking the front one off is a big no no. your spring pack can open up under heavy braking if your pack is to soft.

my original springs have them on the front. i have another set of rears that i was going to use as ruf and hey dont have the wrap. (originals are like first pic above. rears that i got are like the 2nd on both ends). wouldnt the spring pack open when accelerating hard not braking. braking hard would shift weight forward compressing the springs not opening them??

Jimbo , your springs will end up bending , especially with your setup , I am building a jeep for a mate and we had to buy a new leaf after doing what you have done , the spring seperates and can bend , Cheers Paul.

2stroker.....mil wraps can be at either end, depending on where the manufacturer thinks its needed. mq pootrols also have them ate the front shackles.

its not the weight, its the diff wanting to rotate under bracking forces that will open the pack. yes, the pack may open when accelerating but being the front end this will not pose much of a problem. also, if you cut the wrap off, and do get some 'real world' flex when off-road you may find that the leaf will now come into contact with obstacles and end up being a pain in the bum. if you need a little more twist cut an angle into them so they can twist a little more from left to right. if a main leaf snaps you will wish the wrap was there holding the front end steering together until you come to a stop.

The shackle hasn't got enough depth to put bolt through because it hits the wrap

ideally they should be on the front of the spring regardless of the fixed end. If the spring breaks then the diff will be held somewhat in position.

I must be thowing springs away well before they are fatigued to the point of breaking because I have really punished some suzuki's over the years and I have bent a couple of springs but I have never had a main leaf break, mind you new suspension is one of the first things I do when I buy a Suzuki.
Today I checked the 4 Suzukis we have at home, 6 Suzukis that are at the workshop and a pile of old Suzuki springs behind the workshop, I found 2 sets that had military wrap and both were actually front springs with the wrap at the shackle end one set was very old and may have been original suzuki, the other set were aftermarket.
I have been using either OME or king springs for a while and they don't have the military wrap, but I usually buy 2 sets of rears so maybe that's why.
Out of interest for those of you that do have miltary wraps, what brand springs are you running.

I'm running standard fronts with a wrap. I also had rockcrawler springs that had a wrap. The rears I was gonna use up front didn't have a wrap. I might get a second set of fronts and chop the wrap off

If you can do a ruf and rears don't have a wrap then surely u can run fronts without it

I asked about military wraps on an internet forum ages ago, as I run springs in the front of my Sierra which are a length without any military wrap leaf available. The biggest concern I had was when someone said that a wrap can help with preventing axle wrap when braking hard. So I just ended up running the longest secondary I had laying around; and the braking has never been an issue. I am getting killer axle wrap in the back from axle torque though ...
Recently I broke a main leaf in the front of my Sierra without any military wraps. I am sure the military wraps would have helped me, but It was still drivable due to the spring clamps preventing the pack completely seperating. To my mind this makes military wraps usefull, though not critical.
One thing to consider would be how your SOA is done, is it going to cause allot of axle wrap issues? if so, I'd be wanting the wraps to prevent the mains bending excessivly.
