Hey guys
Just pulled out the gearbox, and found the spiggot brg screwed. I had a look at the gearbox shaft and it has a smooth diameter section then a reduced diameter section just before the splines. Is this wear from the spiggot brg or just how its made

What you describe sounds normal to me. The end of the input shaft should transition to a smaller diameter than the rest of the shaft. That smaller diameter section fits in the spigot bearing.

Noticed my sierra box looks similar when I had it out last week. I reckon its a little worn where the narrow end of the shaft inserts into the spigot bearing. Thinking i might need to replace the input shaft some time in the future.

sounds worn by whay you describe
mines got dirty great grooves in it, worst can happen is it buggers the input on the box, which is what you have to replace to fix it anyway so mine will stay like that

My sierra box had a worn shaft for the little spigot bearing. I used a double row bearing the same size, But double row is wider, so more contact patch on shaft.
Works a treat but you can't get the flywheel bolts undone! ( i have a special "dyna bolt" tool to pull it out)

Why do you have an input shaft next to your computer??
If you have access to a lath, you can make up a brass bush instead of a bearing....

No worries.
There are two ways to deal with this...
1, Strip the box, replace the input shaft and carry on. (Est cost $250 for shaft and bearing kit with seals... IF you can get a good shaft by itself.)
2, Drive it till it dies and replace whole gearbox. (Est cost $100-$200 for replacement 2nd hand box)

Went for option 3 and used metalset - cost free. Well till it all goes bang sometime down the track.
Thats one fix now on to the rest
