Hey guys, trying to a g16 conversion in my 1998 sj80. Im looking at re using my g13b head on the g16a block. Very new to all this so if anyone has any experience with this and can offer some advice it would be much appreciated. Cheers

Firstly, do you mean G13B as in DOHC 16V, or G13BA which the SJ80 would have had factory?
Yes you can, but it's about the least preferable option. Firstly, it requires splitting the head and block, which I'd always avoid doing on an otherwise healthy engine. Second,if you're referring to the G13BA head, it has smaller valves than the G16A head which is good for low RPM torque but will see you trade off horsepower. Considering that the G13BA has 47KW an the G16A has 55KW, putting the smaller valved head on will mean you won't end up with much more power.
Ifyou're talking about the G13B head, sell the G13B to someone who wants a hectic nightly boy and put a Baleno G16B in it, The SOHC 16V head flows better, the G16B bottom end is better than the G16A, and you won't be tearing your hair out with tuning ancient EFI. (and you can ditch the distributor and AFM)

Its more of a necessity change, just what i have and I need the car running. Its the g13ba, the g16a is the tbi motor but i didnt want to try do the loom and all that to get that working so i figuredi can keep the g13 head and not have to worry about all that side of ut, just need to make the block work. I can always do the tbi swap later when i get a bit more money behind me. This is a verrrry budget job haha.

If its g16a with tba u should be able to just slap the 1.3 manifolds and carby on then done. Carby might need a re-jet though

Nah, the g13ba has the mechanical fuel pump and the cambelts are different. The g16a one is thinner and the grooves seem to be a slightly different shape, im not sure how much of a difference this makes but i just want to be sure. I saw on another post from a while ago that a guy had done the same thing and he changed the crank gear (unsure of proper name) over but he didnt go into much detail as to how because the g16a one has a different location method. Also how have people gone about re attaching the power steering pump mounts and belt tensioner on, because there are no bolt up holes for them that match, i was thinking some kind of adaptor plate but the pump is still attached to the car so that will be a later mission.

Throw an electric fuel pump on it and swap the manifolds over. (And probably the distributor)
I still don’t think it’s a super budget job if you split the engines to swap heads. you’ll need a 1.6 conversion kit, gasket kit, and a bunch of odds and ends.
