Was thinking maybe routing it to the airbox? Or venting to atmosphere like you

Do I just remove it and plug up the line to the tank, or does it connect somewhere to the new engine? Thanks for any help if you want to leave it disconnected just leave it, just unplug the small hose but leave the canister sitting there. if you want it connected for legalitys there is a solenoid on the intake manifold that it is meant to go to iirc (its been 15 years since i did my conversion so i get a bit forgetful). the solenoid only only opens once you start the motor which helps keep emissions down.

You legend! I know the solenoid you're talking about! I have just removed it now but would like to have it all legal!

Just a comment - You've fitted an older motor into your car. It's going to be painfully difficult to make that conversion legal. (assuming you have a MK1 GTi in your 1996 Sierra) regardless of whether you connect up the charcoal canister or not. Your car, and the MK1 GTi comply with different emissions standards and the change in weight, gearing and aerodynamics between your car and the donor car mean the published emissions data for the MK1 GTi can't be applied to your conversion.
if you mean "cosmetically" legal if someone pops the bonnet then no problem. That's not the same thing though.
Steve.

Well speaking of being legal. I just got a letter saying my car has been randomly recalled for an inspection by the RTA. Great. But I have fitted a MK3 engine not the MK1.

Can you prove your motor is 1996 or newer?

for vehicle to comply legally you need an engine that complies with emissions for which ever is the newer item (the car or the motor**) and my memory of ADR's is a bit rusty but i think between.. forget it i just googled it, between 86 (with the switch to unleaded) and 97 there were no new ADR's for emissions thus any motor within those years should be fine to use. https://infrastructure.gov.au/roads/env ... l_Cars.pdf**if you put a 2016 motor in your 96 zook its going to need to comply with 2016 emission ADR's, if you put a 1900's motor in your 96 you would have to bring the engine up to 1996 emission standards, and probably have it dry cycle emissions tested, all of which would cost a fortune but be completely legal. as for proving the age of the engine, they will do that by looking up the engine number. you may be able to call up suzuki and ask them but im not sure, they may want the vin of the swift it came out of rather than the engine number

taken from http://www.autospeed.com/cms/article.ht ... Two&A=2678Quote: Since the introduction of unleaded fuel in 1986 there have been no further drastic emission regulation changes imposed on local car manufacturers.
However, from 1998 to 1999, ADR 37/01 was phased in for all new vehicles. ADR 37/01 requires a maximum of 2.1g/km carbon monoxide, 0.26g/km hydrocarbons and 0.63g/km oxides of nitrogen. These emission measurements are sampled in accordance to United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN ECE) test standards. so you should be fine with anything between mid 86 up till some time in 98 but getting close to either side of those dates it may fall into or outside of the incoming adr's

Emissions testing is so exorbitantly expensive that even mentioning it on a zook forum is borderline ridiculous. Factually accurate, but contextually ridiculous.
Within the context of the question we all know that is not what is being suggested. Otherwise we might as well say it is an option for me to design and develop my own 'henno engine' from scratch and have it emissions tested and approved for road use in a sierra. I mean, it's factually true but hardly what is really within the realms of what is being considered.
