I gave my split tcase to a bloke down the road who does steam cleaning truck underbodies, so he could steam the gunk off it.
He gave it back today sheepishly, turns out he soaked it overnight in some degreaser, which has corroded the inside and outside of the case.
Is it a throw away job, or will it be ok do you think? If I paint it, will it sort of seal the outside?

Outside doesn't really matter does it...
Inside will clean up fine with some kero and a brass wire wheel on a drill.

Yeah I am more concerned about the inside - I s'pose once it has oil on it it won't be able to corrode anyway.
Maybe some touch up black paint is the go for the outside...

give it a couple of taps with a hammer, it`s hard to say how deep the acid has eaten in. If it were mine it would be in the bin!

I wouldnt be putting that back in my car, surely the bearing surfaces and sealing surfaces are rooted.

Looks a lot nastier than described... It will clean up with work but probably best to just replace it.
