Does anyone know an ideal axle length for a new trailer behind a sierra.
39mm round axle for a sierra wheelbase.
About to order one and needed to give the desired length.

id get it made so the WMS to WMS (track width) is the same as the sierra rather than the wheelbase.

Axle length is measured differently by some manufacturers. Length stated can depend on length of stub axles, which can be longer on some braked axles. As Atari said, pick the wms to wms you want, and check supplier for the way they measure. My maker said subtract X from actual track to get axle length.

This is the specs for the axle on my trailer, the rim offset is standard Jimny alloys and the track is within a couple of mm of the Jimny track width. I don't believe a few mm makes that much difference, and you'll struggle to get it perfect as most axle suppliers work in inch increments anyway.

SA trailer & chassis web page has all the info you need to work it out, plus 100 other websites.

This axle length is doing my head in, so far i have all the measurements and have used an axle calculator.
Chassis is 1066mm
Space between wheel and chassis is 40mm
Rim backspace is 88mm
Calculator allows 50mm each side for hub width.
TOTAL IS 1422mm or a 56inch axle
Hub face to hub face is 1322mm
The only WMS ive found for a sierra is 1300mm but im not sure if thats correct. Does anyone know where to find or calculate the WMS?

I used a tape measure, as my Sierra had a wider track than stock.
With my Vit I also tape measured. Vit was a 61" I think.

That's what I did too.
Used a 2 foot square on the out side of each tyre with the tape measure between to get over all track width. Ripped off one tyre, laid it down with the out side face on the ground and measured back to inside face of rim to give me hub face to hub face.
The rang the guy I was going to buy the axle off and gave him Jimny track details and the trailer dimensions, he worked out the rest.
My trailer track ended up a touch wider then the Jimny, but as I mentioned before I don't believe it make that much difference. There is 5mm difference between front and back axles on the Jimny anyway, I don't expect 20mm or so on the trailer will make it a dog to tow around.....

Vit is 5mm different front to back, too, plus disc conversion could be 10mm
