geez you lot get complex for no reason, just put a big alternator and optima in with a digital volt gauge and go from there, for all you know your current battery is just stuffed.

Even the winch racers with dedicated 24v winch systems run out of power if they dont pay attention

Is thr d51 the same size as a stock zook battery?

Bigger but it fits in the same spot for a Jimny anyway. It is the biggest that will fit.

That is actually all I do myself Royce. If I don't pay attention and stuff the battery my secondary is the same sort.

My winch runs off my second battery, that way when the carbie claps out on angles I can winch the nose down to get it restarted, without fear of a flat main batt.
my main battery can also help supply some grunt when the engine is running, either if the redarc is auto engaged or if I manualy switch it
it hasnt let me down yet, and as you know josh, my poor driving normally results in winching

This was going to be my suggestion... There's heaps of room on the drivers side for whatever sized battery you want really. Coupled with a falcon altenator (which you already have ;) ) would be a shit ton better than current setup, and would mean us not having to lever the goat with big sticks in the middle of whoop whoop cause we couldn't start your car hahahahaha

Nice idea pezz! Will keep thinking on it.

31Zook

Dont buy the D51R. You need the D51. On the 51R the terminals are on the wrong side of the battery.

Sorry I missed your post back at the end of June but I see you got the correct one. I just insulated the terminal but it does not touch the bonnet.

How are the bonnet struts going. Are they the same ones Zukenutter has? From Korea I think?

I just bought the biggest battery that I could physically fit in. Works great now. Can winch without problems or stoppages unlike before on a stock battery. Alternator upgrade will help the battery cope better.

Probably regurgitating what has already been said but...

I have a M8000. Put the biggest yellow top in. No change to alternator. With reasonable use on a mad day of fun, I have no dramas. I have even winched for a couple of minutes engine off and started no trouble.

Just throwing this out there in this old thread for all the tightarses just like me...

I bought one of these:
http://www.supercharge.com.au/supercharge-gold-plus-mf55b24r

Same size as an optima D51, but higher CCA, more reserve capacity and only $128 with a 40 month warranty.
