the old law stated that lights must be in pairs, but it wouldnt pass as no light was to be mounted that high anyway..
but sometimes it can help if you look like your trying

kinda like putting mudflaps and flares on to cover illegal tyres

every little bit helps

are they looking at changing the rules?

going back a few years jeep managed to get the roof lights on the Cherokee approved along with nissan getting the roof lights on the xtrail through.

This was on the SA Police news site on the 5th of May.

Police have also received questions regarding the recent introduction of LED Light bars.
It has recently been agreed by the Australian Motor Vehicle Certification Board that the Australian Design Rule will be amended to allow the fitment of LED Light Bars.
All headlights and additional driving lights must be at the front of the vehicle.
Fitting driving lights (spotlights) on the roof of the vehicle is still prohibited and the vehicle can be defected if they have been installed.

Which is kinda funny as I'll see cars with round spotlights on roofs everyday anyway.

There is no height restriction for aux. lights in Qld and single lights, symmetrically mounted around the centre, are also allowed

I've got two 12 inches on the roof similar to ZN. When i was called into a booz bus setup the only question was whether they were switched independent of the spotlights on the bar and if they only worked on high beam. Both answers satisfied him and on I went. Seems either the police themselves don't know the rules or this guy was just a decent bloke who had bigger fish to fry.

ah yeah not quite, there's several ways they can be interpreted here in WA, 99% of the fitments don't meet that requirement.

ive mounted it that high because
1 i was able to weld the mounting plats directly to the basket
2 the height stops any reflection

You'll find it's robbing a lot of your vision further down the road, drop it down and back a bit

X2.

Also, while you're at it, both of you wrap some matte black tape around your chrome/white antennas/bases.

These reflective surfaces will cause so much glare back at you that you have effectively removed any advantage by having extra lights fitted in the first place!!!

Yep that's the way Darky, the roof one is practically the same as mine. Set back and lower, it doesn't hit the bonnet at all.
