Thanks mate.

Don't know how many litres, it was all pressure pack cans.
I used heaps of cold gal on every weld or cut edge, then a few cans of etch primer and 4 or 5 cans of colour.
Used half a tin of tar/sound deadener under the main body and will use the rest of the can to do inside the wheel arches.

It really needs a good thick coat of paint to finish it off, but I wanted to do a few trips first to see if I added any other bits and pieces to it before I did a final coat.

Spray pack paint job came out well. I assumed you'd hit it with a gun.

Nah, I just got lucky with a pretty even coverage and no runs.

It's a bit thin in places and it scratches pretty easy. I'll wait a bit longer to be sure I'm not going to weld any more brackets on to it before I borrow the compressor and spray gun from work and drown it in paint.

Here's a couple of trailer touring photos from our recent trip.
There's heaps more pics on this page of my Jimny build thread.

Nice and clean at the start.

Where'd you go? Jimny and trailer look great together. Any plans to hunt down a pair of matching 5 spoke rims?

We did southern NSW, from the coast to Kosciusko and over the VIC boarder.
Bendethera N.P.
Wadbilliga N.P.
And lots of places through Kosciusko N.P.

It was an awesome trip.
We packed to be totally self sufficient for 12 days (we didn't have to stop, but ended up stocking up on some fresh fruit and veg on day 5).

I weighed everything as it was packed away and the total trailer weight was exactly 372kg (that's including the tailer) with 57kg on the tow ball, the bag with the sleeping gear on the roof was 23kg and we had 20kg of clothes behind the back seats. Plus 2 adults and 2 kids, the Jimny had no problems at all with this total weight.

I found the most comfortable highway cruising speed was about 95km/hr and stayed in 4th most the time, just grabbing 5th on the flat or down hill sections. The Jimny handled all of the off road work beautifully, and I found that for the really long hills on the main roads through the Snowies it saved a lot of gear changes if I just sat on 4,000 RPM in 2nd gear. That was around or just under 60km/hr and with all the tight bends and blind corners that's about as fast as you want to go anyway.

We did just under 2000kms all up and averaged around 11L/100km.

The trailer towed really well coming to Bendethera, there are some pretty long and steep sections coming in and out of there and I was a bit worried about the trailer with no brakes on some of those clay hills. But I only really noticed it was there on one really steep section that I had to ride the brakes a bit, other then that one part it was just 1st gear low range and no dramas.

You can see in the photos there was lots of creek crossings. I could feel the difference when we crossed with the trailer on, the extra resistance was not too bad, just noticeable. We found out on the first little test run we did a while ago that with the front tailgate on the trailer it's not water tight, so we wrapped bottom of the tent with a tarp and it stayed dry through all the crossings.

We are really happy with our first real test of the Jimny/trailer combo, this trip had a bit of everything and we made it back with no incidents or problems so looks like there will be lots more trailer touring to come. :D

Oh yeah, I do plan on getting a pair of 5 spoke wheels for the trailer to match the Jimny. No rush at the moment, but it will happen.

Great write up especially the total weight stats. I think it's great that you've crafted the Jimny into a usable tourer for a family of four.

Glad the five spokes are on the radar, will really finish it all off well.

Nice photos!
My family have a farm south from bendethra valley.
It's in belowra. Lots of beautiful spots around there. BadjA trig point has great views on a clear day. The cascades at the tuross are nice too.
Sad thing is more and more is getting locked up.
Been riding/driving through there for years and still find new places.!
Awesome country

Cheers mate.
Our original plan was to camp at the cascades, but you have to book ahead for that site now. We where just passing through Wadbilliga on our way to Cooma so it was easier for us just to camp at Lake Creek.

The drive over that range through Wadbilliga N.P. was one of the highlights from the whole trip for me, so much different scenery on one track.
There is one section on the western side of the range where you drive right on a ridge that was exactly like a track I did up in The Cape a few years back.

When I was designing this trailer I went with the single draw bar because I could get a much tighter jack knife if I got stuck in a tricky situation while out in the bush.
Turns out the single draw bar has even more advantages then I first realised.

Had to go and pick up a new washing machine this arvo.
Parking with the trailer in a shopping centre car park, too easy..... :D

Cheers mate, I'm really happy with how it's come together.

I've been working on Mark II for the storage boxes in the trailer this weekend, we found some room for improvement after the Snowies trip.
We're heading off for 4 days camping next weekend to test out the new setup, will have more updates and photos when we get back.

the lengths look right. if you disconnected it from the car you could reverse over the draw bar and fint in one carpark, if you wanted that is.

I recon you're spot on there Jezza. If I backed up to a wall and dropped the draw bar on then floor, then keep backing up so the hitch is under the diff it would be exactly a carpark length. I don't have to worry about anyone fucking with it either, no way they can move the trailer with it wedged between the car and the wall.

I'm going to keep that in mind if I need to do this again, cheers mate. :peaceout:

The trip was awesome. Armsup

It's getting really easy to pack and unpack now, I've made a small tarp kit just for the trailer.
To make a kit that packed properly into the trailer I had to cut down 6 adjustable poles by 150mm and the spreader bar has to be pulled apart. I searched everywhere trying to find poles the collapsed short enough to fit with out having to trim them, but what I need doesn't exist.
Just like most other things for this little trailer; it needs a little effort to get it right, but that bit of extra work usually always pays off in the end.

I didn't get any decent photos of the trailer set up and wasn't going to bother putting up any pics up here. But anyway, here's the shitty ones that I did take if you're interested.

Excuse the mess....
