M18A VVT shopping time for me :D

This could see a change in direction for my Jimny with a suspension drop of 20mm and a transfer sway to the non VVT transfer, then back to 235s. Gearing will be roughly equivalent to a stock Jim with 215s.

Thanks for testing this Tim and of course the input from you other guys. Great news, I'm excited!

M18 throttle body issues sorted, so the next restriction is the standard jimny exhaust manifold or have peeps already been running extractors?
ZN, let me know if you find 2 :P

There is probably still one at the local wreckers here in Parkes but the guy that runs it is a total douche. That said it only had around 18000kms and he wanted $1400 for it.

When I was looking for mine (and ready to buy) I put a request out on find a part (http://www.findapart.com.au/). I ended up with about 3 quotes later that day and another couple the next day.

This is old info now (July 2012) but may be useful for price/km comparisons:
Code:
Troubles Wrecking (VIC)      56000kms      $880     Delivery included
Parkes Wreckers (NSW)        18000kms     $1400     Local pickup
New Model Wreckers (NSW)     30000kms     $1250     + $80 delivery
New Model Wreckers (NSW)    100000kms      $880     + $80 delivery
Suzifour (NSW)               46986kms     $1650     + $100.00 to $198.00 delivery
Huge Auto Wreckers (VIC)       ???kms     $1100     + unknown delivery

I'm onto one that apparently has low kms but I can't confirm until I hook a battery up to it. I have to pull the donk myself too :(

Where'd you get that list Tim?

Hopefully pulling the motor out yourself saves you some money.

That list is just the quotes I received when I was looking back in July 2012.

Ok. I think that prices on the 1.8 have gone up. Swift tuners and Jimny tuners both want them and Lianas weren't a big seller compared to the Swift. I'll go check out the local one next week.

That seems like a pretty good deal. Any idea on when you are likely to do the swap?

The other one was a smudge cheaper but I'd have to pull it myself, that didn't excite me. I'd love to have it done next week for Anzac weekend away but won't have time so it will happen the following week. Very excited.

Great success!

I installed the M18A throttle body today with the IAC motor (the black part of the IAC valve) from the M13A and so far every thing is working properly.

Hey man are you using the 1.8 manifold ?

I'm just using the 1.3 manifold based on this bit of Squibby's guide:
squibby wrote:
Some common misconseptions - you should use the jimny intake manifold NOT the liana. It has additional connections for the 4x4 vacuum hose, and other then this it appears to be the same size in everyother way. Don't think the liana one is bigger and more 'freer flowing - it isn't.

To be honest I didn't have a good look at the two for a side by side comparison when I was doing the swap and I no longer have the 1.8 manifold to compare to (sold it with the 1.3) so I can't confirm that this is true.

Yeah it's true, wonder if you could tap in another connection on the 1.8 manifold for the vacuum?

I just did the throttle body swap and confirm it's working the way Tim said !

Thanks for you help Tim!

I have put the M18A manifold on mine there is a difference in diameter of the port between the m13 and m18 manifold the biggest difference is where fhe throttle body bolt on the manifold the m18 is much bigger.
To sort out the vacuum pipe issue I put a t piece in the vacuum line that go to the fuel pressure regulator and tap the vacuum for the 4x4 system there from.

That's out of date now Tim, I believe someone found that the ports are actually bigger on the M18.

Perhaps I should update the master thread now to refelct the M18 Throttle Body/Idle Control Valve and the new knowledge regarding the manifold?

I'll get onto it...

My 1.8 came with the loom all the way through the firewall. Did you guys strip the Liana loom and just plug the jimny loom into the 1.8?
Also, is anybody running the Liana flywheel? At first glance it looks heavier which I'm thinking will work well on the highway, plus I'm thinking the 1.8 will have plenty of pep so no need for a lighter flywheel.

I've been having a better look over it this arvo, the 1.8 throttle is quite a bit bigger. Made me wonder how running the 1.8 throttle body on a 1.3 would go, could be a good intermediate upgrade?

I didn't get enough loom to use it and I didn't get a flywheel either.

I got rid of my 1.8 manifold when I sold the 1.3 so now I have to try and track one down so I can change it over. It will probably end up costing me more than the $50 I got for the engine though.

That's why I'm just going to mothball my 1.3. Just not worth selling. Such a shame that you only got $50. Maybe you could find a seized/damaged 1.8 for cheap.

I'll go ahead with the 1.8 flywheel, can't see why it wouldn't work. My clutch has only done 50,000kms so I'll just reuse it.

Questions time

1. Connecting the air filter box to 1.8 throttle body, what's been done here?
2. Are there any gaskets I should buy prior to installation?
3. What is the issue with keeping the Liana rocker cover?

There will be more but this is what I have so far

1. Nothing special, it fits.
2. Yeah, some Instant Gasket for the sump, you will be using the M13A sump, it uses instant gasket from factory
3. Liana rocker cover dipstick is in the wrong place.
