That sucks. Have you gone back through the thread? The check engine light has definitely been talked about, not so sure about the immobiliser light and speedo. Do you have a OBD reader?

Found it, missed a small earth wire towards the back of the motor.

She's running sweet, just have to put in my M18a injectors.

I'll be hunting down a 1.5 soon. I don't mind the idea of the 1.8 but I only need a small amount of extra power. Actually it's really just a bit more torque that I'm after. 1.5s are so easy to find with low kms and cheap.
My 1.3 is running well at the moment and nobody want them so I have trouble with the idea of throwing away a perfectly good engine.

Yeah I looked at a 1.5 wreckers here wanted $950 and I got my 1.8 for less.

Just got a check engine light and a air sucking sound coming from the engine and it started running real rough.
It's sucking air so we are about to start troubleshooting.

Curious as to wether theres a motor to suit the 2013 facelift that still complies with all road rules ect in vic. Pretty sure one of vics laws is the motor has to comply with adr, emmissions, be same year or newer and also have no structural or engine mount mods to be able to be signed off by a vicroads rep.

Could be in the market for a newy soon

Get an M15 from a Swift, July 2008 or newer. I could write a whole couple of boring paragraphs why but if you are interested just PM me or take my word for it or use the search function, I'm sure I've posted a couple of times on this subject regarding emmisions and ADR's in depth.

is it really that worth it though??
does the extra 200ml capacity really overshadow the pissy 1.3 that much to make it all worth it.??

Thanks guys Due to this thread l have source a m18a engine and put it in my Jimny. I sorted the idle problem on the m18 throttle body so I keep the m18 intake manifold and throttle body . The engine running smooth like the m13.
The high idle as due to a stuck idle control valve the stepper motor's bearing was seized or rusted. Clean oil and fit and my idling is fixed.

A little bit of discussion about using the 1.8 throttle body taken from Zukenutter's build thread. I thought it would be better to move this discussion back here with the rest of the M18 tech.

I didnt use it because of this in the Conversion thread

Also you WILL need to use the Jimny throttle body. You may think the Liana one is better because it is bigger, which is true, but the Jimny ECU will not run the Liana throttle body. The idle air control valve is much bigger on the Liana and you jimny will not idle properly.
Regarding fitting a freer flowing exhaust manifold - don't do it yet. get the engine conversion running on stock then change it after. It won't get you many gains anyway since you are still restricted by the smaller jimny throttle body.

Would swapping just the idle air control valve work?

This is what happens if you put the 1.8 throttle body on:

Basically it runs great when you are on the throttle but as soon as you lift the throttle (about 0:03 in the vid) the idle oscillates. This is more of a pain when you are trying to just idle around a car park or in traffic because as soon as the throttle goes up you are propelled forward then it instantly drops back and you end up bouncing around like an idiot.

If you can figure out a way to make it work you will make lots of people happy. I've kept my 1.8 throttle body in the hope that I will be able to use it one day...

What about 1.8 throttle body with 1.3 idle air control valve?

OK, so I had a look at using the 1.3 idle air control valve on the 1.8 throttle body today. As it turns out the idle air control valve is different shape on each throttle body as shown in this picture:
Image

The 1.3 throttle body is on the left and the 1.8 is on the right. The idle air control valve on the 1.3 is held on with 4 bolts and on the 1.8 its held on with 3 bolts.

My first thought was to make up an adapter but then I realised that the port size is very different between the two.

1.3

1.8

So now I have a new plan. I am going to make a spacer/adapter that mounts the 1.8 idle air control valve to the 1.8 throttle body but has a smaller port opening in it. Hopefully this will let me use the 1.8 throttle body without the oscillating idle issue in the video above. Hopefully I can make up the adapter this week and then install it over the Easter weekend.

- Tim.

Take that black coil part of then you wil see a shaft piece with a permanent magnet on it , this shaft must rotate freely and smooth otherwise it wil not idle correctly mine was stuck . I have use the 1.3 coil part (black part) .( sorry for my english )

Hi guys, I have the 1.8 throttle body on my car and have it idling exactly the same as with the 1.3 throttle fitted. What you have to do is remove the 1.3 idle speed control motor and fit it onto the 1.8 throttle body. Once fitted a 10-20 min drive in traffic and the idle will settle and be just as it was..

Thanks Bertie and Davesrt.

I am in the process of trying this but I had to buy some more tools to do the swap as the IAC valve motor is held on with 2 #20 5 point torx screws (not the usual 6 point torx).
Image

I bought a set of 5 point torx today and have taken the 1.8 one apart for a look. I'll do the swap tomorrow or Wednesday and report back with pictures.

Great success!

I installed the M18A throttle body today with the IAC motor (the black part of the IAC valve) from the M13A and so far every thing is working properly.

The IAC motor is held on with 2 #20 5 point torx screws. I didn't have a set of 5 point torx drivers so used it as an excuse to buy more tools.
Image

The two IAC motors look exactly the same but have different part numbers. The IAC motor from the M13A is the one you want to use and it has 18117-78F11 written on it.
Image

The M18A IAC motor has 18137-54G10 written on it.
Image

The top coolant pipe on the M18A throttle body is different to the one on the M13A so you will have to use the top hose from the M18A as well. You can see the difference in this picture:
Image

I've only driven a few kms since installing the bigger throttle body but the difference is fantastic. The engine feels so much more responsive now, it is clear that the engine was heavily restricted with the 1.3 throttle body (no big surprise really).

Thanks again to Bertie and Davesrt for pointing me in this direction, it's good to finally have a solution for using the 1.8 throttle body.

- Tim.
