ive read heaps of posts bout tyre sizes and decided on all terrains maxxis bravo 771 LT 225/70/16
After many enquiries with bob jane only 1 shop said they had the LT others just refused they existed.
Went to have em fitting this morning and then they looked at my tyre sticker on door & refused as they said they were illegal size for my gv as its not a newer model gv.

I have a 03 grand vitara stock tyres are 235/60/16. I hav dob's lift. I

is this correct? im in Brisbane, QLD
If these are good tyres and size for my gv. i'll just buy em and get sumone else to fit em..... or hav I got it all wrong?

pretty pi$$ed :evil: they wasted my time

advice please

advice also with the dob's lift and if these tyres? should I hav diff drop brackets or are they not REALLY necessary with this combo ?

they are lieing to you.

your allowed 2 inches over standard size in QLD

from 235/60/16 to 225/70/16 is only 1 inch.

^ What tanshi said, go 225/75R16 if you can. I'd go to a smaller guy and see if they'll match the bob jane price.

The Dobs kit is what a 2"? You don't NEED diff drops, but they do help out your cv's. I ran 32" muddies with a 2" lift with no problems with CVs, only since I've got 3" and front air locker I've been breaking them.

you are allowed 2in total lift that can come from tyres or suspension or a mix of both (unless the new laws have been passed for 2+2 tyre suspension...). technically it would be illegal but only for you to drive it on road and even then its a very mild alteration in tyre size as it goes and the tyre company wouldn't be held accountable as the work is done on private property and you are the one driving it onto public roads. Have you thought about going 225/75/16? just that little bit bigger and fills the arch nicely. Many people on here use that size.
Diff drops are not needed (but i recommend them) with the 2in dobs lift as the flex out of it isn't hugely increased and 2in is within the reasonable limits of the cvs.

I always take rims in without the car, then they not liable.
Some places fit the tyres to rims, but make you fit them onto the car.
Liability issues again.

Wrong. In Qld, 2" suspension + 2" body lift has always been allowed. Only recently has the law changed to allow slightly bigger tyres in addition to this

It MAY be the Load Index issue.

What is your placarded Load Index, and what is the L.I. of the proposed tyre.

Everything above is OK to do, but you MUST match or exceed the L.I.

I completely agree, but going up in diameter, but using a narrowere tyre, it could result in a tyre with a lower L.I.

this is what the manager said UNFORTUNATELY YOUR SUZUKI IS CONSIDERED A SOFT ROAD VEHICLE WHICH DOESN’T APPLY TO THE 50MM GUIDE.
after I sent him this something I found on qld rulz? .....
The overall diameter of any tyre fitted to a passenger car or passenger car derivative must not be more than 15mm larger or 26mm smaller than that of any tyre designated by the vehicle manufacturer for that model.
The overall diameter of any tyre fitted to:
-4WD passenger vehicles specifically designed for off-road use (typically MC ADR category
-4WD goods vehicles and their 2WD equivalents if the chassis and running gear are
essentially the same as the 4WD version (N ADR category); or
-any medium weight goods vehicle (NA2, NB ADR category).
Must not be more than 50mm larger or 26mm smaller than that of any tyre designated by the vehicle manufacturer for that vehicle.

:? never said anything about a body lift in that equation, only tyres and suspension which you proved my point. it could also have a bl in it but he was only asking about suspension and tyres

I can see how the tyre store is trying to limit their exposure to possible liability, but there is no reason why you cant still get someone to fit 'em.
Get on to Maxxis, (Tyremax is the distributor over here----) and ask them for a list of tyre shops that stock or can get stock.

The load index, is not an issue. The tyres are 33mm taller. (height increase = 16mm) Clearance? I don't own a Gvit.

Bob Jane are not the only reseller. But I know that here in WA, Maxxis come through 2 different distributors. May be its the same over there.

Yes but I think not quite, looking at the QLD Code of Practice now (seems you need to check every time as it changes) it says up to 75mm in suspension and tyres is ok and no plate, bodylift is a plate and total lift from 50mm (go figure) to under 125mm is a plate.


Dont promote the stores ignorance, just go somewhere else and get em, and drive past and give em the :thefinger: once they are fitted

Out of curousity how did you approach this? did you ring them and ask them if they would fit X tyre to X vehicle, then when you got there they changed their mind? or did you ask for X tyre after once it turned up?

Took me 4 tyre shops to find one that would even fit a second hand tyre to a wheel. Many of them don't want anything to do with anything out of the ordinary. Like for like oem is all they want.

I contacted em and had many discussions via email re tyres I wanted and had provided all my car details.

then wen I was booked in, they got the tyres in the shop, I turned up ...... they changed their mind and said its illegal :evil:

So much I didn't want to giv BobJ's any of my $ but I did, as just couldn't b bothered (in mid of movin & busy with work) spendin mor time makin mor enquiries bout tyres.
u'd think livin in Brissy SHcity with plenty of shop options this would b easy task, but anything 2 do with cars I find very time consuming 2 try 2 find ANY decent customer service anywhere here anymor, even wen u phone 20 places, send 20 emails or drive all round the city droppin into shops tryin to find some.
Enquired 5 places to hav these tyres fitted no one refused 2 fit em 2 GV, sum had mixed debate wether legal or not. Jax Tyres was the most professional tyre shop I enquired 2 & said totally legal without doubt & was the only place that would find me the valves I need, as I need them to b in a certain spot for TPMS to fit without hitting rim.
mission accomplished :/
