One U bolt snapped on the old SJ410 ute today and the others look pretty poor. So I went down to Repco thinking that these would be a pretty common item. No way! They don't carry U bolts for any vehicles let alone Sierra's. Neither do Sprint Auto or Supercheap. So next stop was the only wrecker anywhere near me. Its only a small yard, with no Sierras but seems to have quite a few Jeeps. (Cherokee's etc). So I took a chance and grabbed a couple of Jeep U bolts for $5 each. They fit almost perfectly and you can see they are far meatier than the original bolts. They can be done up nice and tight without any risk of snapping and should easily handle anything the sierra is likely to encounter. The only minor hassle was that the holes in the plate had to be drilled out an extra couple of mm. (2 minutes work on the drill press). The bolts are also about 2mm wider than the originals but can be squeezed by hand and once they're through the holes they do up just fine.

These bolts came off a Jeep but they might be common to many other vehicles. Hopefully this info is useful to some other members.

That's a good find.

1.3's run bigger u-bolts than 1.0's, which may make these an even better fit.

What specific model are they from? XJ?

Steve.

Quite probably. He had about 2 dozen U bolts hanging on a rack. They all looked the same. He said they were all off jeeps, and all the jeeps in the yard looked reasonably modern.
