I am sorting out the cooling for my Sierra and it is a bit crowded so can I use any condenser that I can make fit?
If it matters I have a Sierra radiator plus the largest PWR trans cooler I could find and a small power steering cooler plus I think I might as well stick a engine oil cooler in as well so a small condenser would be handy

I'll go ask the HVAC guy here at work but afaik you could use whatever provided it would stand up to the chemicals and pressures. After all they are just a closed loop like a fridge or split system.

I used the original condenser, modded brackets to suit a wide vit rad but i don't have a massive AT cooler. I do have a small engine oil cooler for my PS though.

Your right, it does get crowded even with only my 3 things up front, and my clip/grill is 30mm forward..

I've heard bigger the condensor, cooler it will be. Not sure if thats true.



Moving clip forward is an idea, But it is a pita.

Righto so I have a condenser, compressor and the Sierra evaporator under the dash. What I dont have is everything else.
How to I make it work? I should mention that I have none of the vent stuff or any of he switches, don't even know if the blower works.

So what do I need now to get it going, don't care about factory stuff and the fan will be wired to only work on flat out.

Receiver dryer, Tx valve, a switch to activate it. You will need to buy some PAG oil to lubricate the O-rings(need to be air con specific o-rings) That is all I can think about for the moment.

shep, have you got the plastic box the sierra evaporator goes in? without that it will be a nuisance. didn't you wreck a vit for the sierra? if so, pull the vit ac wiring and thermo control doova and maker it fit in the sierra.

condeser wise, the bigger the better. your trying to offset the cool in the cabin by cooling the conderser (sort of) so keeping the condenser cool is the challenge. especially in a slow moving 4wd.
If you don't have room for a standard condenser, i'm guessing your not planning a condenser fan? if so your ac will be off a lot more than its on as the over pressure switch will turn the compressor off.
my car has a big vit radiator and the standard g16 type condenser and sierra evaporator with a 16'' fan on the front. (no ps cooler and not auto) In theory i think it should work well with a condenser bigger than the evaporator had and a fan bigger that the condenser had.
Its all about keeping the condenser cool.

Yeah mate I have a NOS under dash evaporator, have two vits for parts so should be able to come up with something.

There is a big sucking thermo on a new radiator, 12" fan on the trans cooler, 2x6" on power steering cooler and will put the biggest fan I can fit on the condenser.

Should be plenty of air flow. Haha
