weren't they mainly after pootrols... i remember there was a stage on outerlimit's where one was going missing about every week.

Find where the thin black/white wire for the coil power runs under the dash hook a wire to this into a switch and the other side to earth

turn on ignition it blows the fuse, things never going to go

Yeah mainly. But if it was modified and had old tech/easy to pinch it was likely to go missing.
I had the zook stashed every day in fear.

But yeah, anything to slow them down is better than nothing. Unused to take my ignition leads with me if I had to leave it somewhere for more than a couple hours.

the old lead trick hahha, the old man got me a ripper one weekend just after rebuilding my cortina. the funny bugger took the little carbon brush out of the top of the distributor where the coil lead fires to the centre of the rotor button, bloody thing wouldn't start.

popped the dizyy cap, nah the rotor button was still there. kept poking around double checked the kill switch & eventually i saw it wasn't there when i had a check over the inside of the dizzy cap for cracks etc. :lol:

he had a bloody good old laugh, reckon that was the best one he got me with too. :twisted:

LOL my old boy did that to me too with my old bluebird.

thinking back to that car, i had a kill switch put in that was quite cool. it was a magnetic reed switch, i glued it, as well as a small piece of iron behind the dash somewhere. totally invisible. then i just had a fridge magnet that i stuck there when i jumped in the car. worked a treat. can dress up the fridge magnet and make it a suzuki "S" or something for a bit o' bling.

Really? Air locker switches, some nice tyres, a winch etc are all dead give aways that there is some parts worth money in it, regardless of how fully hektik fast it goes.

dude you obviously havent modified many cars? sierra's are cheap in comparison, 2.5-3 grand is a absolutely nothing in terms of value.

i have that hanging of one side of the engine of one of my skylines add the rest of the parts wheels, suspension etc etc there is a whole lot more than just 2.5-3 grand.
on my other skyline there is close to 15/20 grand in the engine bay before i even look at the rest of the car

the point i am making is that sierra's are very low on the value list, i dont think they are top priority for would be theives especially for their parts.

the person with skills and the desire to steal a vehicle will probably steal something of higher value

That is incorrect on carby models.
You can run a wire from the battery to the coil, and 15a fuse will blow.
Which prevents it back feeding and running the heater, rear defogger, reverse light, indicators, and wipers
But the car will still run.
If you didnt have this kill switch, if they stole the car while its raining and cold, its possibe they would blow this fuse anyway.

Unless you have an electric fuel pump (can hide a kill switch on that), and/or do a kill switch between the coil=>dizzy=>earth (which will stand out like dogs balls, unless you are really careful with it), the simple 15a cable from battery to coil will get it running, if you use a screwdriver or open ended spanner to bridge the starter motor.
The only challenge is the steering lock.

So I advise you to convert to MPFI and do a good killswitch/immobiliser whilst doing the loom to prevent your carby car from being stolen. That way there is far more electrickery to confuse people. Tell your significant other, you have to do it to prevent theft and it will make insurance cheaper, whilst saving you fuel.
It will pay for itself.

Do you have time to start it (fffing around time) its just switches and wiring and placement. Simple wiring and switches narrow down failure to start.

Speaking of kill switches.... The previous owner of my Sierra had kill switch wired in so that when the engine is turning over(with the starter motor) it will fire but when the key was returned to run it would cut spark, boy was that a head fuck the first time I accidentally knocked the switch!
