try wiggling it but leave the nut on a few threads or just yank really hard but make sure the nut is on, or your gonna get smacked in the head

A bearing puller works too if you have a decent sized one.

ahahah i normally do the push pull method, left hand push, right hand pull and back and forth till you feel it coming off the tapered spline. No wheel in face then.

i always just leave the nut on and give it quick jabs with an open palm, around the entire wheel. that normally wiggles it lose.

Another way to try is to leave the nut on, put pressure on the wheel pulling it towards you with your knees or the help of a mate and whack the nut with a hammer. The puller method is the best of the lot though.

Best way I've found especially on old cars with very valuable steering wheels EG GT Falcons is to loosen the nut but not remove it then push on one side of the wheel with gentle force then push on the other side. Repeat a couple of times and this will loosen the lock on the tapered splines. Wheel will just lift off.

A mate had just rebuilt his torana and was driving along a road and told me that to get the steering wheel perfectly inline he does it while driving.... Couldn't get the wheel back on and ran up the back of a parked car
