hi mates. got a problem with my car. happend after taking off from the lights last night. took off and herd big clunk clunk bang noises. couldnt drive without it making noises and grabbing/almost jamming up fully. had to tow home

i jacked it up now and it seems to make the noises even in neutral in 2 wheel drive when i let clutch out. dunno whats happened. was thinging diff broken or uni joint but its doin it in neutral and the wheels spin in neutral once clutch gets let out. back wheels are jacked up

vid here mates. some times im letting clutch out in gear. some are neutral.

after another look think it might be the front uni joint, the one closest to the transfer case on the gearbox to transfer case shaft. dunno why it wants to spin the wheels with gearbox in neutral though. seems it will do it sometimes but will stop and icanstop the wheels with hand

yer its the front driveshaft uni. pretty sure. its just turning in neutral sometimes coz its gay i guess. weight of the car on the ground would hold that probably under normal conditions

Your posts are confusing.

The jackshaft or the front driveshaft?

Gbox in neutral, turning the jackshaft will drive the car wheels..

Transfer in 2wd should only drive the rear shaft. Front shaft stays stationary with hubs unlocked also.

think its called jackshaft after looking on ebay for unijoints. from gearbox to transfer

jackshaft turns sometimes in 2 wheel drive with gearbox in neutral. dunno why. can stop it with hand on tyre.

think i found problem anyway

The jackshaft will turn with gbox in neutral with wheels in the air.

If you put the gbox in gear, it wont turn..Because then your turning the whole motor over also..

If that jackshaft is only turning sometimes, you have other problems.

Get under the car, and wiggle the uni joint. If there is slop in it, its fucked. If not, then its something else. All that vieo shows is that there is a noise.

Uni joints should have ZERO play. If there is any more than ZERO, replace the joint.

probly uni joints. well il fix them first. will do rear and jackshaft one

certainly sounds like uni joint noise based on one i had previously with hilux diffs.

theres not really anything thatd make that noise in transfer cast is there? thought if it was transfer case itd make similar noises to when ya miss a gear and stuff?

abclarke : that perfectly fine. Stop whinging :thefinger:

Absolutely is. Same with the gearbox. Damaged bearings, stripped gears sound exactly like that.

Take the jack shaft out and have a REAL good look at it. If that doesn't tell you anything, drop the oils from your transfer and gearbox. If its a problem in there, you'll most likely find sizable bearing or gear tooth fragments.

Go to the lowrange or calimin sites and download the gear installation instructions. They will walk through tear down proceedures.

Sounds like your 6.5's have given up on you.
