hey all, i have a 1992 Suzuki sierra. and i am wanting to put a head unit and speakers in it. but i have been looking at the wiring and stuff and it doesn't has a wiring loom or anything at all to able to run a head unit or to put a uni plug into. would anyone have some suggestions for me what i need to look at doing? cheers.

If ya buy a new head unit it'll come with a loom of sorts. A head unit requires 3 wires to get running, accessories, constant 12v and earth. Run a Seperate fused wire from head unit to battery for constant. Use any accessories, ie lighter socket. And make an earth. The speaker wires are generally white and white black, grey and grey black for fronts. And green and green and black and purple and purple and black. It's all fairly easy. Most new decks come with instructions.

so if i buy a head unit from lets say supercheap it will come with some kinda loom too get me started?

yes it will come with a loom its a easy job only need to connect 3 wires to get it going then your speakers of course.

all the wires are coloured to an international standard so it should be an easy job to match the colours.

i've put crimps in mine so the deck's wires plug in making it easier to change decks.

If you're not an audiophile pick up a screw terminal strip from Jaycar ... makes changing it very easy.

hey does anyone know if the back of the standard sierra stereo has a plug on it? or is it hard wired in? I'm wondering if i can get an adaptor harness so i don't have to chop the original plug off on my uncles sierra to fit a new deck to his.

that's probably the wrong model, but just search suzuki radio harness, on Ebay, and you will find heaps, then just get the ISO one for your make of headunit as well and its just straight plugin

you want one that your wiring harness to female ISO then you get another one that is Male ISO to your head units make plug, then you just plug them in.

Pretty sure radios were a dealer fitted thing so the only stock plug was power, which would of been cut off anyway

yeah his stereo was different to my stocker... my stock one was a clarion with AM/FM and tape deck... his was a "stirling" or something. Had a separate screw in earth wire and stupid dicky plug... so we chopped it and put connectors on the wires to marry up to the harness. between the two of us it only took 20mins to do. Now his speakers can't keep up! hahaha
