There are three ways to interrogate the ECU via the OBD port which is a multipin connector under the dash and close to the steering column on the later models.
1) Get a Suzuki Dealer to connect it to their diagnostic computer (easiset and quickest way)
2) Buy an OBD scan tool from ebay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/200441325735 ... 1423.l2649 (this is also a great trip computer as well)
3) Find the thread which describes how to do this with a light globe and read the number of flashes

These are the only ways I am aware of.

looks like you check it the same as g13bb with a paperclip.

[Without Using SUZUKI Scan Tool] (Vehicle Without
Immobilizer Indicator Lamp)
1) Check malfunction indicator lamp referring to “Malfunction
Indicator Lamp Check” in this section.
2) With the ignition switch OFF position, connect diagnosis
switch terminal (3) and ground terminal (2) in monitor connector
(1) with service wire (4).
3) With the ignition switch ON position and leaving engine OFF,
read DTC from flashing pattern of malfunction indicator
lamp. Refer to “Diagnostic Trouble Code Table”.
If lamp does not flash or remains ON or OFF, go to “Diagnostic
Flow Table A-4”.

Are you running one of these? I am of the understanding a lot of Suzukis arent strictly OBDII even though they have the plug, I dont know when they started being OBDII though

You can also buy the scan cable from Rhinoman which works great
Shep, I can post mine up to have a look at it if checking light flashes doesnt work

No they're not. I've used a obdII scan tool on mine and it doesn't work.
Hazard a guess at your problem, it sounds like one of the coil packs or spark plugs have shit itself. Especially if he's been using e10 petrol. I've had a lot of late model cars lately start missing and throwing up an error code, because of crook plugs caused by the e10 they were running in their cars.

Royce - I don't have one yet but I have corresponded with the seller and he assures me it will work on the 2009 model. It is going to be one of my next purchases. I also saw that there was another member who had one and gave it a good write up in his build thread. Now you (and Rockhopper) mention that I will check with Suzuki about whether the 2009 model is actually OBDII or not. Thanks for that tip.

Rockhopper - what year is yours?

My Sisters Jiminy has had this problem since new, goes away but always comes back, the car is now out of warranty and its back on again and the Mechanic mentioned E-10 as a possible cause as there is nothing left to replace on it.

Royce and Rockhopper - you are correct the diagnostic port is OBDI and not II. Back to the drawing board with that idea then.

I attend a lot of broken down cars. It's how I make my living. In the last week I had a Mazda 6 running like a hairy goat. After putting my scan tool on it and diagnosing number 2 cylinder was misfiring, I removed the platinum tip spark plug to reveal it was covered in shit, and what looked like a crack in the porcelain tip. Now platinum spark plugs are supposed to last to 100000km's. This car had 60000km on the clock. I asked her what petrol she was using. Sure enough e10.
2 days later I got a 2 year old v6 Honda Accord. Same problem. Same outcome. Bottom line is I would'nt use e10 in my lawn mower. 95 Premium is initially more expensive, but will save you $$ in repairs in the long run.

@ Mike 57. I could be wrong, but I believe that every car sold in Australia after a certain year had to be OBDII compliant, so perhaps your is. My Jimny is a 2003 1.3 twin cam, but no vvt. Definately not OBDII

Rockhopper - the dealer told me it was not an OBDII port but I have emailed Suzuki customer care with the question. I also found the thread where another jimny owner purchased that trip computer/scan tool and I have left a question with him to see if he got it working. The Autel computer says it is OBDII/EOBD compliant. I don't know what EOBD means.

Australia mandated 'OBD2' in 2008, the Aus standard (ADR79/02) is a simple copy of the Euro standard so any EOBD scanner will work. The main difference between OBD2 (the US standard) and EOBD is that OBD2 didn't original allow KWP2000 and EOBD2 doesn't permit the old Ford PWM protocol (from what I remember). The US allows much higher CO2 limits and lower NOx limits.

I found a copy of the standard:

http://www.comlaw.gov.au/Details/F2010C ... e_1#param1

2008 for new vehicles, 2010 for existing models.

Thanks Phinoman - I bet the 2009 is OBD then as it was an existing model. Maybe the 2010 Jimny has OBDII. Thanks for the links!

I shoved a wire in the plug and we get one flash followed by four flashes
I assume it is error code 14 however I don't seem to be able to find any info on what that means.
Anyone have a idea what it would be

I have corresponded with Suzuki and it seems that the diagnostic port is not OBD-II compliant. It seems that since this was an existing model it did not need to conform to OBD-II and is OBD-I. It seems to be part way there but not fully compliant. Looks like reading the flashes if the only way to do it as above.
