Made a extended bracket for my Load sensing proportioning valve (lspv). Its the spring attached to your rear pumpkin.
When you raise the suspension of a Jimny to regain proper brake balance this is necessary. The final positioning should see the axle housing end of the spring being slightly higher than the valve lever end. The amount to lengthen it by is the same amount the suspension has been raised. The lever should be in a relaxed position when finished.
I have seen one advertised on the Jimny bits site but to save $30 made one myself from a bit of gal shelf brace I had sitting around. Really easy to make, took about a 1/2 an hour including fitting etc. Brakes are much better balanced front-to-rear now.
The finished item

My brakes are definitely much better now. Even in the current wet conditions I have been able to hit the brakes much harder than I used to with no lockup.

I just disconected mine and zip tied it up out of the way, works fine and have had no problems with rear lock ups

Kyzer I think that's a better option than just raising the suspension and leaving it connected. I'm not sure exactly which way the bias is meant to go but I found with it still connected that I had too much bias towards the front during heavy braking.

I adjusted mine, looks still connected, but brake bias is contant. It was a real pain having variable rear bias down loose steep hills. I now have good brake balance, that is predictable. But this is an off road only solution I like the idea of an extension to allow for lift, smarter option for legality and safety.

I had an in-cab choke cable in my old Jimny rigged to the lever so I could play around with the bias. Never really used it though

Mine being a LWB it is quite heavier at the rear than a swb softy, and I carry a bit of weight in the rear, too, so it may be a different story for everyone else.

sorry for old bump.
i tried to make an adjustment bracket on the weekend but don't appear to have had much success (actually made 2, one slightly different for more tension).
basically chucked the bracket in & had someone jump on the tow ball to see if any adjustment occurred & it didn't. then removed the spring & had them apply the brake to see if anything would happen & it never (had the hand brake off & the wheels chocked).
does any one know how the valve is meant to work ? i'm guessing when the brake is applied the lever will try & open to the left, but the spring will restrict it based on the ride height of the car. is this correct or am i missing something ??
thanks for your help as always.

as you add more load to the rear, it adds more rear brake bias. so the more you compress the rear end the less tension is on the spring letting the arm move which lets more pressure to the rear brakes.
what you are wanting to do is to get it back to the standard position at ride height.

well when i even remove the spring completely & depress the brakes the valve doesn't do much more than move a couple of mm, yet if i move it by hand i can move it over an inch. could it be faulty or possibly not bled properly ?

On a Jimny, the standard position at the point that the springs attaches to the axle bracket is slightly higher than where the spring attaches to the ISPV lever (spring is almost parallel to the ground. On a Jimny it actually pulls on the lever as you load the rear or as you brake hard. Engagement of the valve only requires a small amount of lever movement. When there is no load, the spring should be slightly loose, when you apply load in the rear the sprung mass moves down toward the axle, thus stretching the spring and pulling the lever. When I did mine I had a stock Jimny alongside to work from. Worth climbing under a stocky so you can see how they look when stock. thanks for that nutter, looks like my second attempt at a bracket was fine, had a slight bit of free play & had the spring sitting slightly upwards. will have to refit it =)
