Hey everyone

Just got myself a 2007 Jimny, this is my first mod:
Edit: forgot to mention it's a GME TX3100

Image

1. Remove the fascia surrounding the radio, air con etc. I followed this guide.
2. File down the protruding plastic about 1mm on each side.
3. Mark where you would like to mount it and drill a hole on each side.
4. Find some bolts and bolt it in. (I used some random spares that I found but I think they are M3 thread)

I need to find some longer bolts and it could probably use some spacers installed on the bolts. It also moves slightly, so I might stick it down with some double-sided tape.

Otherwise, very :D .

Nice work, What is that radio? Nice and small I'd like one to hide in the sierra.

Cut into the plastic under the ashtray? Thats where I would place it also.

Another idea is to take the ashtray out and using another bit of thin steel or timber place it in the ash tray hole and the uhf below it (behind the shifter), then screw the bits together clamping it tight to the underside of the ashtray mount....

Then the ashtray slides back in and you have your change holder and uhf. No nasty holes.

What about once you've done a sierra transfer swap, and no longer need the push buttons for 4wd you remove them to make room for the UHF. Not sure if it would fit, but I imagine it would look good if you could.

naaaaaahhh I like my ashtray way too much :P it holds all my spare change coins neat and tidy

in other hand the hole or "pocket" under the stereo is only good for my bublegums packs.... anything bit bigger or heavier fall to the floor in every quick take off or slight hill, so pffffff off u go for a din size uhf 8) ....oricom have one pretty cheap too, so thats my plan for now

I put my UHF handset in that "pocket" but you're right BertZook, it does come out, especially when 4WDing. I put all my loose change in the pocket next to the handbrake.

Birdman, I thought about putting it there, but I never use the ashtray and the UHF was the perfect size.

I know my ashtray etc is different...
But my idea originally was to put it in there and replace the ashy entirely. even though the 3100 fit ok, it was pretty much impossible to fit with the bracket. would have had to custom mount it some how. in the end i wrote it off as too hard and not worth the effort and just chucked it where it is now.

probably for the best, i keep my compressor fittings, tyre deflator, usb sticks and air bed bungs in the ashy.

Same thought processes, bought the oricom - see photos here viewtopic.php?p=564423#p564423
Only downside to the ebay package for the oricom is there is no spring for the aerial. I'm not fussed atm, but you may want to buy one at same time

So the GME TX3100 is a good little radio then? I had a play with one early last year at the caravan, 4x4 and camping show down in melb early last year, been meaning to get one ever since then lol. Perfect size for a zook ;)

yeah i rate it, I got mine off ebay to save a few bucks. 80 channel, has the selcal feature so you can talk to your friends without others interrupting all the time (although others will still hear you). so yeah works good! match it with a 6.6db and youll have good all round range.

Yeah looks like the old auszookers photo library went down. I'll try and get the photo up somewhere else.
