hey Joeblow, whats the chance you would consider making stronger GV front axles and cv's. it seems to me that there are no stronger aftermarket options out there except getting custom ones made.
I got quotes $250 per side for stronger rebuilt cv's from a place in clayton....was the only place that was interested in doing them.
IM sure otheres will pipe in also (i hope)

Stronger in what way? Material or design?

i think cv's for vitara and grand vitara would sell well as we all break them and there is no real option for strength unless its toyota

both. I thought about Uni shafts with a slip joint but unsure if they will operate ar a big enough angle.
a bigger cv might foul on the coil
Better materials would be good. not sure if heat treating / cryo treating the stock ones would make much difference....
A combination of both heat treating and better design/size would be the ticket

mmmm. Yes I have been testing CV's along with Kenn recently, but unfortunately not as quick as I would like due to other issues. Material is sitting there ready for the first trial of the uni shaft system. This will be made over summer. There are also plans for a conventional CV type system. The issue is the inner CV's, not the outers. I am at the stage now of experimenting with hardening as I know what results factory hardening will yield. I'm not sure how these guys will build you a stronger CV from off the shelf stuff. Heat treating of materials is the expensive part, hence why factory parts are only treated where absolutely needed for general use.
Stay tuned.

That will be fine for the outers but the pass side inner needs a bell with a mounting flange......thats the bit that has me stumped so far.

leave the stock inner in, if you break one of them without hitting it on something youve done well!

Thats the one i busted. I shattered the inner passengerside cv. The cv cage broke and spat itself into the mating surfaces and chewed itself apart.
Joe if you want someone to do some real world testing of them im more than willing to help. I promise to treat them really harshly....Front lockright makes sure they get a working over.
oh and this is whats left of my last CV

Nice. Find me an inner CV that has 25 to 27 splines, has a flanged mounting surface and I will adapt.

Well did another cv and I'm out of spares so we need to come up with a better idea because the Suzuki one are crap
How much stronger are the lux ones
Joe could u make a kit to take them like Stan does
Or a sierra cromo outer with a heat treated inner with a Cromo sleeve pressed over the cup if there is room

On this subject, i'm in the process of checking out Navara CV's
I've checked what is required for the Hilux CV's and you MUST do the Hagen widening mod in order to accomodate the length of the Hilux CV's, even if you're running Calmini Arms.
I believe the Hilux CV conversion also requires you to grind out the back of the hub to accomodate the larger CV size.
The hilux CV is approx 4mm shorter than the Vit ones, (At least for the SE416) so once you add about 20mm for seal adaptors & flange adaptors, you run out of room very quickly.
I'm not very happy with doing either of these mods, so I'll be going to the wreckers some time this week (work permitting) to grab a CV from a Navara (either D22 or D40) to check measurements.
On an aside, i have been caught out with a slightly longer (approx 25mm) CV from the wreckers, they had already pulled the part so I can only speculate that it was from an SV? or possibly a GV? So these vehicles MAY be able to use the Hilux CV without the Hagen Mod.
Will let you know how I go with the Navara CV measurements.

OK, so I annoyed the heck out of the guy at the CV suppliers today.
The D22 and D40 Navara, and also the D21 Navara & D21 Pathfinder are all longer than the vit CV's by 3-4 mm.
Looks like the Hilux CV is the way to go, so I picked up a couple while I was there. Also ordered some IFS Hilux Free Wheel Hubs.
Time to put in some time on the lathe & mill.

Yeah but they were cutting off the vitara stubs and welding them on the maxima cv which would be a pita
Any progress on this Joe
Do u recon a heat treaded stock inner with a sleeve presed over it would be strong enough
What's the operating angle of the sierra cromo cv compared to the vit inner
Something with some more angle would be good to get some steering lock back

Every CV i've broken had been the outer. Could be me going a little too hard and then trying to turn as well... Never full lock, nor even close to it, but then I'm not easy on vehicles, far too heavy on the right foot.
i've got some time on a lathe tomorrow, have already got the 2 brash bushes turned up for the seal surfaces, tomorrow is hub adaptors & flange adaptors.
