i have just noticed that my diff housing seems to be offset to the left a bit
what i mean is the passanger side tyre sits out of the guard about an inch or so and the drives side sits inside the guard i checked the spring perches and the springs sit straight on them and the shackle angle is the same on both sides
also the passanger side front corner of the carsits about 2 inches higher than the rest of the car
does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?
cheers

the panhard rod help keep the diff, axels in line with in the body

my sierra used to sit lower on one side at the front, I just shimmed that bodymount up with some kingswood wheel alignment shims

Different offset rims?
Different width tyres?
Snapped spring pin?
Gas axe.

the body appears straight on the chassis so it looks like the diff is some how out of alignment

Was my immediate thought too.
I could be wrong but I reckon the only way your diff would be out of alignment is if you have a twisted spring or a bent chassis. Am interested in hearing what you find.
@ lump_a_charcoal. I've got a set of standard rear springs if you want them. Not sure how good they are, but they came off my car at 145000km's and the car had only been offroad once in it's life (when I got it at Menai)

could it have something to do with the steering hubs/wheel bearings?

if you can notice its off centre by eye it should be easy enough to measure, start with chassis rail to sill front and back then backing plate to chassis rail and back of rim to chassis rail and so on

i jacked up the car (with a hilift ) and when i lower it all sort of came back into alignment and i measured from chassis rail to back of the rim and got about 10inches on both sides
i was measureing to the outside of the tyres before but i didn't take tyre pressure into concideration
