Hey everyone,
Ive been having dramas with my Jim, I had to be towed it was that bad.
Basically, ive lost all power, when it first started it wasnt that bad, but its practically lost all power now. seems to idle ok (sometimes).

Ive replaced the crank angle sensor, and removed the o2 sensor to find out if the cat was blocked. still runs like a dog.
Ive uploaded a youtube vid of whats going on, this is with the o2 sensor out, so the exhaust is kind loud.

[flash width=480 height=385]http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/v/MCFkhOqLkz0.swf[/flash]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCFkhOqLkz0

any help you guys have would be awesome, im at the end of my rope almost.

How long has it been running with lost power? Have you washed the engine or driven through water recently?

My corolla did pretty much what you're describing after i got water in the electrics, I COULD NOT find what was wet, and eventually it went away by itself after a week or so.

Put the link in the OP for you mate,

As for the water, i was driving back from cape york when it happened. so yeah, plenty of water.... but its been sitting there for several weeks now.

I drove over a tonne of corrugations also, so something coulda shook up a bit i guess.

So it has slowly been getting worse and worse?

Maybe check your fuel filter hasn't become blocked up with crap.

have a look at the hard lines running along the chassis rail as it could have been damaged by a flying rock/stone.

take your fuel return line off feed it from the engine in2 a bucket, start it.. then try to rev it.. watch what happens... $1 on fuel pump or lines.. it looks to be starving of fuel.

I cant watch it too many times at work but lean will likely backfire

I reckon zooky08 and alien are on it, I would pull the intake off at the throttle body (do they have a MAF sensor furhter up?) and try that and it no good pull the exhaust off at the manifold and try again

Think they run MAP royce.

More info, how much water did you go through? What were the initial symptoms? Lost power but still running smooth ie no backfiring etc?

thanks for your responses guys,
No smoke is being blown when i rev.
The water i went through was every water crossing between here and the tip of cape york. (up over bonnet on some occasions.) The problem didnt show up till well after the crossings (days after)

I suspect the corrugations may have been a more likely culprit.

yeah ill try taking the intake off and the exhaust at the manifold and ill do another vid shortly.

has the filter oil from the sock gummed up the MAP sensor?

If its MAP, it wont have a hot wire to gum up like an MAF.

Also take the top covers off and check to see it any water went down the coil plug towers etc.

Not water in the fuel tank?

To see if its running lean you can take the vac line off the fuel reg. This will increase the pressure in your fuel line and thus increase the fueling

ok, ive dropped the exhaust off at the manifold, cleaned the PCV, cleaned the MAP sensor, and disconnected the airbox.
still does it. so i can rule out the cat.

I did notice the map sensor was not exactly sitting right in its mounting hole. and there was a slight cracking on its plastic casing.
is there a way to test a map sensor? and would a broken one produce these symptoms?

oh i disconnected the vac on the fuel pressure reg, no difference. so i put it back on.

I'd presume you've checked the spark plugs and water in the oil?
