1: Go for a drive to warm up the engine. :D

2: Stop engine.

3: Disconnect fuel injection system. You don't want fuel to enter the cylinders while the spark plugs are out!

My F.I. and Fuel Pump relays live in this box under the dash.

The relays are these two little black boxes. I pulled out both relays.

4: Remove spark plugs.

5: Disconnect injectors. (The green plugs)

6: Connect compression gauge. (It screws into the spark plug thread.)

7: Disengage clutch (to lighten starting load on engine), and depress accelerator pedal all the way to fully open the throttle valve.

8:Crank engine with fully charged battery, and read the highest pressure on compression gauge.
NOTE: For measuring compression pressure, crank engine at least 250 rpm using a fully charged battery.

9: Repeat for each cylinder.

10: After you're done, put it all back together and check that the engine starts. Then go drink a beer :D

Specs I found for compression limits:
Standard: 199.0 psi
Limit: 156.4 psi
Max difference between any two cylinders: 14.2 psi
(These are actually for the earlier G16B, but I assume they are similar for the coil-pack engine)

My results:
1: 190
2: 190
3: 190
4: 195

:D

a tip when removing and fitting plugs is an old normal plug boot pushed onto the end of a screwdriver, then stick the plug into the boot

Excellent write up mate, but i think 170psi is the minimum.
