I've started makIng a storage drawer system for my Jimny. Made out of 15mm ply, 400mm sliders for the drawer, there's also a space in front of the drawer for my aux battery. I'll also be putting some 6" splits in the front of it and possibly an amp to power them. Not quite finished. Still have to mount a latch to stop the drawer opening when I drive and also need to carpet it etc. Would love some feedback :)

To really finish it off add another bit of ply to the front of the drawer carcass. Make to the outside dimensions of frame and high enough to clear the back of the car. Gives it something to close against and easier to fit latches too.

Yeah thanks guys... I was thinking of doing that with the drawer and filling the holes on each side too just haven't had the time yet. Kinda stuffed up the measurement with the front of the drawer and it ended up that way but I've got plenty left over to make a new one :)

Mate I'm more than happy for anyone to copy the design... I wish there was some sort of pre made setup for us zookers. I'll post up the dimensions when I get a chance. There's also going to be a little manhole in the top to make acess to the aux battery and fuse box inside.

If ya notch out underneath your windows you can still use the storage hole/thingys. And 2 bits on the lower corners (facing out) to cover the gaps beside the drawer would make it look SO neat.

But man that is a very neat job. Don't forget the tie-down points.

Yeah I thought about the sidestorage but for the amount of mucking around compared to the amount of space I can't be rooted lol

I'll be covering the holes up and ivegot a spring loaded latch to stop the drawer flinging out when I'm driving.

I'm also going to put a hatch over the battery to give easy access too

I've got some brackets being made up for the latches to lock into on the drawer, and I've made the drawer face wider to cover the sliders and started filling in the holes either side. Not much else progress at the moment cause I'm pretty cashless till the end of Sept, but I'll post some more progress pics when I get a chance.

Its great but I think you are wasting too much space in comparison with a commercially available custom drawer system. Unless you are planning on using the two cubby holes either side of the drawer in some way? All the ones I've seen utilise little spaces like that so you can but your jack, fird aid kits, or stuff that doesn't get used much in them.

I haven't written off using those holesas storage completely yet, although I more than likely will. I couldn't find any commercially produced for jimnys? It's near perfect for my trip to the cape as I only really needed somewhere to sit a fridge on and bags of clothes etc. Swag and fuel in the basket up top, and the rest of the other gear is getting split into the bigger vehicles. My uncle was looking at getting hold of some second hand side moulds that I could chop to still look like they are there above the line of the top board, but give that little extra room under the wings for storage too which would make a whole lot of room, but I don't wanna cut the original ones lol

I did look at these, but very pricey! Don't get me wrong, they're excellently made, but even their runners are 2 to 3 times the price I can get them for from the same place they get them :s

haha fair enough.
Im probably going for the biggest single drawer they have, 380 seems fair for something i only have to put wood onto.
how much are your runners?

Runners cost me $60 and good for 125kg each... I spoke to the bloke from this company at the last 4x4 show when my gf's dad was asking bout drawers for his prado, and he wanted $220 for fridge sliders which cost about $80-$90

I was thinking custom made, because they usually are actually. Haven't seen any specifically for the jimny yet either. Cargo barriers are readily available if you think you need one of those. Helps with maximising the space if you really want to fill up the back of the jimny from floor to ceiling.

yeah cargo barriers a must after drawers i rekon, otherwise be ready for stuff to fly at you every time u tap brakes.

kinda annoyed that ODA cargo barriers went up to 450 rather than 350 when he first planned them.
Although i called him and he said the rrp is over 500.

Im thinking after takling a job like the drawers, a DIY barrier is easy.
