hey guys iv herad that the 1.3l starter motor will not fit the 1.6l conversion
so i tryed ordering the convertert started motor through coventries but they got the standard one instead,
my question is what is the difference between the stock starter and the 1.6 converted starter?

I am only guessing, but I think it's just the physical size if the thing. Nothing a shave with a grinder won't fix :twisted:

I have seen a thread talking about this somewhere in here I think. AFAIK you have to grind a side because it's fatter than the 1.6l one to clear the block.

Yeah the block wall is bigger.

Alot of people get away with grinding down the edge of the stater that rubs.

I usually machine and smooth down the whole housing so it fits with room to spare.

Otherwise, The 1.6 starter will fit, and have heard the 1.3 gti one will also.

You can get the narow body one on eBay a lot cheaper than buying one form an auto shop I have one and I've had no hassles with it after 18 months of uses

i managed to bolt it up without any issues, but when i start it up it sounds as if the teeth on the starter dont mesh properly with the flywheel. and when it cathces starts straight up

hey so the 1.6l starter will it definatley fit ?, i can get it cost price from coventries, but dont wont to order another part if its not gonna fit.

also has any one got any images that shows were to grind the 1.3 starter
