i stripped down a sierra transfer to install 6.5s. i completely stripped down the case and gave it a good degreasing, because it was full of mud.
Im in the middle of putting the case back together and i cant get the shift rail back into the centre housing.
The steel ball sits ontop of a spring, i need to compress it to slide the shift rail back in, any ideas on how to do this, is there a special tool?

Want33s is spot on, didn't you get the instructions with your gears?
Also, the trick for doing that bit, is to put the shaft in from one side, a flat blade screwdriver in the other, depress the ball with the screwdriver and slide the shaft through at the same time (pushing the screwdriver out of the way using the shaft)

insert the bolt a few thread turns before you do.. that way if it goes pear shaped the spring wont shoot the bearing up

because they don't remove the selector fork, they just leave it in.....

Pretty sure mine fell out (read I pulled it out) because I was trying to move it or something and pulled it all the way out. Just used the same trick they use on the other one.
