EDIT: looks like the joke had his thread deleted.
Quote: Lost it in the wet on a corner, wasn't speeding.. Had to swerve for a rock (Protect the rims!) hit one of those big reflectors in the middle of road, understeer, due to my suspension the back dropped out and yeah.. Better a tree than another car i guess. I managed to spin the car backwards as i hit the grass, the trees bent the chassis and destroyed the back end.. But that saved the interior, engine bay and suspension.. Aswell as the rims.

Correct, i wrote a car off 14months ago in the wet
I was being a dick, it happens.. That's life.
I parted it out, and made back more than what i paid for it.. It all ended well

just for peoples interest, i've been fortunate to have been able to check out these and the indian versions and it is not the locked position i would be concerned with, its when in its open position and the parts are actually rotating and wearing. cast gears tend not to last too long.

This could be a valid idea?
Never purchased the items myself but i've heard the replacement parts for the locker are dirt cheap, its just the initial locker as a whole thats so expensive.
EDIT: seeing as this post is off topic anyway. I wonder how thier steel wheels would go and how cheap they are??? lol.
Also, lots of chingrish on there, good for a laugh

Noted. Would be interesting to pull them out and check them after I've done a few thousand k's if it hasn't blown up by then.
On a side note how do you tell whether or not the gears are machined or cast then machined? As I said the gears in that ARB youtube vid are quite obviously cast but the ones in the soong locker are at the very least cast then machined. I think it was Dank who said there was still evidence of the casting on the ones he looked at.

They only list the front for a GV. Is it the rear or front that ARB requires the 3rd member from a Vitara?

RD88 is the 26 spline front diff in a vitara & a rear diff in the sierra.

In my ignorance I bought Roo Lites, I am very happy with them, but I now realise they are a knock off of Lightforce. Lightforce is a US company, and if the lights bugger up, no biggie, I can still get home.
Interestingly, I was told (which is about as gospel as an internet forum) that a design fella for lightforce left the company on bad terms, and sold the roo lite, and lightforce had stuffed up with a direct copyright to his design, so it allowed him to market his own brand.
Just a story I was told, In no way do I know for real!
Cheers Superduki.

If you want to be locked and save coin, I would use an auto locker over one of these.
But I would like to see how these perform.

Really?
I'd shoot myself in the face over using an auto-locker...
Each to their own I guess...

Soooo.......
2 things I've taken from this thread,
1) they should ban warning labels and government regulations so natural selection can take over.
2) Nobody is actually using the chinese lockers yet.
I was having a chat with another AusZooker the other day who is also interested in purchasing one. Anyone else interested in a group buy?
edit: a group buy in brisbane.

So has anyone got any good info on these chinese copies?
Costs, quality, surely someone has used them before!!!
How many splines are the rear diffs in a SJ70? Are they 26 Spline? Is it only the front that are different?
Sorry for the dumb NOOB questions just curious.
Cheers
Conrad

with the AU dollar so strong at the moment, buying genuine air lockers from the US could be an option?
I've looked, it's really not worth it.
By the time you've paid for the locker, and shipped it over, you're really only saving 50-100 dollars.

I like this idea, we should all chip in for someone to buy one, shouldn't cost much each and they can be the guinea pig.
I say stekky should be it.
if 25 people donate $20 ea.

Ok i found some info on the China Soong lockers from a pootrol forum, here is the link http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/general- ... ndex2.html
Look at post # 24 the user name is "CLAY" then go to page #4 and look at post #67 he says he has been using one for 12 months and it has performed "flawlessly" the website url that clay has put in the post should be www.china4x4offroad.com
Going from what clay is saying these chinese lockers could be worth the goods. At around Half the price of an ARB unit they sound decent, But he did say he had to make some mods, and apparently the some ARB parts are interchangeable. I'm going to get a quote from china soong i will attach the email once i receive a quote from them.

Matfan, the prices they offer on thier site are different to what they will actually sell to you for.
I tried to get some lights off there and they were dirt cheap. Final figure was three times what they had on thier site for a number of reasons (new customer, only ordering 2 items, yadayadyada)
Not worth the hassel.
