I am about to put 4.6 R&P (Vit fronts) into my sierra front and rear carriers with airlockers.
I though I had better look at doing bearings or at the least seals.
Then I found this??
http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/suzuki/s ... -cans.html
I havent heard of that before? I thought the vit front gears went straight in?
And also what the diff experts opinion on what to replace while its apart?
(is it like a transfer just do the bearings anyway)
Cheers!

the can is for 5.12's & lower, 4.6's should be fine..
I'd be doing a rebuild, all bearing's & yoke sel, crush tube the lot, you going to have to strip the thing down to change the pinion, so new bearing's are a must IMO..

Some of our club members peen the diff carrier to stop pins falling out.
Some even use a blob of weld, not really a good plan.
The 5;12 does not have enough size to prevent diff pins coming out.
In the vit, they held in with a cotter pin.

In a stock Sierra diff ratio set up, the cross pins can't work loose, because the shape of the crown gear holds them in .
The 5;12 crown gear shape leaves too much space, so cross pins can work thier way out too far. If that happens, it can spin round and smash into the pinion, causing many bad things.
I assume 4:6 to be same from above posts.

but I thought air lockers replaced all the carrier stuff, so may be not needed.
best to check that with ARB

From what I just read on OL the Gman says if your using a airlocker then no retaining is needed.
