this is a good example of neccessity being the mother of invention. I tried to sleep in my Jimny once and I woke up in the foulest mood.

Holy shit - I'd hate yo guess how much you weigh if you're that tall! I'm like 170cm and never considered myself short be4

I have sleep in my jim few times, the trick to make it bit better is to put something under the back row seats in order to make it lift and stay at the same angle of the front one

in that way you have a "flat" bed, and not one that goes up and down

loving the work mate i have a similar thing in my sierra but because i have bucket seats i couldn't fold the seats back flat like you have, therefore i turned it around and had the extension hanging out the back, but that means i have to have the back open

it still beats the swag, with the sleeping on the ground with snakes and bugs and shit in your bed when you wake up

Bit of an update, used this a few times now without a hitch. Only real problem with it has been the access underneath from the back.
Also I've been thinking about adding a drawer so I needed to dump the turnbuckle system but still keep it simple to remove while also still holding my weight.
So I have added two tabs which bolt it to the factory child restraint mounting points.

Do some Jimny's have a door latch on the rear door as it was a real PIA when I tried sleeping in my Jimny trying to get out of the front doors in the morning?

I'll be adding a drawer to this in the next week or so. Nothing fancy just a partitioned ply box with 20mm angle as sides.

Im 186cm and fitted just fine in my jimny bed, although it's only the passenger side so its narrower. But I suspect the newer jimnys have a bit bigger dash.

Looks fantastic 'nutter.

+1 on the air mattress though - SOMEONE HAS GOT TO MAKE DECENT ONES OF THESE but so far i havent found one. The gain in space would be worth a little bit of comfort, but I reckon there must be some decent ones out there, probably dearer but jeez, think of the money we spend on our cars...

We had a good air mattress years ago, eventually it let us down... in the middle of the night.
The single mattress in these pics has been replaced with a double that I've shaped to follow the contours of the interior side panels. Also it's 150mm thick.

Also a double air mattress couldn't be cut around the steering wheel. Foam doesn't need inflating/deflating ;)

The rollout air/foam combo 4wd mattresses are pretty decent and whilst they aren't great in terms of space, still probably better than a full foam one.

I'm too old to sleep on anything thinner than 100mm.

Added a slide out drawer today.
